I feel like game of thrones follows the books more than any other adaptation I've seen

Until season 5. Now theyve gone their own way
#34 to #28 - anon (05/18/2015) [-]
Thats because they're rapidly running out of source material and by necessity they're driving it in the direction of the new stuff they're writing.

I like the idea of there being a 'show version' and a 'book version' from this point.
User avatar #41 to #34 - goggins ONLINE (06/12/2015) [-]
Well they (the show writers) aren't running out of source material because GRRM has already told them everything and oversees and approves or not on everything; they're begging to use things that are in the new books. It's just the readers that don't have the source material to guide them any more.

it's been said by the directors and george r.r martin that the book and tv show are two diffrent things.
There are people in the book that are dead in the show, and vice versa.
r.r martin even said the tv show could end it with aliens coming down and killing everything because of that fact.
User avatar #29 to #2 - hkd (05/18/2015) [-]
Or the books could. Neither are finished.

adaptions aren't supposed to be exact yknow

Yeah I loved the books this series was based on, was pretty pumped to see their interpretation / casting for the different characters. Also wanted to see more of Dorne than we're getting, so kinda sucks I guess.

Episode 5 spoiler tho >>
Why the **** did they give Jorah the Explorer the greyscale?

Combining him with JonCon's part i assume
User avatar #15 to #13 - rollies (05/18/2015) [-]
quite sad tho really, i liked JonCons character, so sucks that he won't be in it

I'm more concerned about Aegon's storyline,
like, I assumed three heads of the dragon prophecy thingy from quarth would be danaerys, aegon and assuming jon snow is Rhaegars son, jon snow as well....
User avatar #21 to #17 - toensix ONLINE (05/18/2015) [-]
Aegon is probably a Blackfyre not a Targaryen. In the house of the undying it is said that Daenerys must slay three lies. One of which is 'A cloth dragon sways on poles amidst a cheering crowd'. Some people including think this cloth(fake)dragon is Aegon.

Later Quaith comes to Daenerys in a vision and she says the following: 'The glass candles are burning. Soon comes the pale mare, and after her the others. Kraken and dark flame, lion and griffin, the sun's son and the mummer's dragon. Trust none of them. Remember the Undying. Beware the perfumed seneschal.' The mummer's dragon is Aegon. He's not a real dragon(although he himself believes he is) but a fake one like played by a mummer.

All new things to consider, so any ideas on a third head?
User avatar #39 to #36 - toensix ONLINE (05/18/2015) [-]
If you're interested in more theories like this I really recommend asongoftheories.tumblr.com/ . The third head is a problem if he has to be a decendant from Aerys and Rhaella. If you really think that is one of the absolute necessities for a head of the dragon then I can't think of a single person except for Daenerys and Jon. I personally think the most likely candidate is Tyrion but I do not buy into the theory that Tyrion is secretly a son of Aerys.

The 5th books is the worst book though...

While I respect your opinion, I'm going to have to say 4 was absolute ********* .
nothing good happens, its just a ******* of bad things happening to good characters

ok I guess catlin dying was a good thing, but only in the book. Holy **** was she annoying to read. Nonstop bitching and moaning with like one plot point happening per chapter.
User avatar #32 to #26 - toensix ONLINE (05/18/2015) [-]
I used to have the same opinion of 4. I mean it's still a great book but I thought it fell short in comparison to the rest.

But I recently discussed 4 with a friend of mine and it seems to do a lot of finisching up the war of five kings and set up the rest of the story taking place in th south. And now I pretty much agree with him.

But still: ******* Brienne on ******* Crag Claw point, I mean come on.

"make the story more appropriate for the show medium in places that don't translate well from the book and/or let George change **** because he ******* can"
User avatar #3 - gameshredder (05/18/2015) [-]
I thought there were script problems because GRRM hasn't released a new book yet, so they have no books to follow.
User avatar #4 to #3 - ireallylikepotatoe (05/18/2015) [-]
This season is based over two books. It's next season they're in trouble

Really seasons 5 & 6 should be half of each books but that isn't happening.
User avatar #31 to #4 - guitarassassin (05/18/2015) [-]
They've already diverted this season. Sure, what Jon Snow's been doing is similar, but from what people tell me, everything else is new. Hell, Ser Barriston wasn't supposed to die. At all. He's still alive in the books.
#9 - amalur (05/18/2015) [-]
This is what the show needs.
User avatar #18 - majkee ONLINE (05/18/2015) [-]
one of the books is really slow, its more about the politics and lore than anything, its not exactly something that would probably be well received on tv
#40 - gerfox (05/18/2015) [-]
Theyre changing up how events are transpiring - but I still think they follow the main storyline.

Interesting to see where the change up, where Petyr first ally with and then doublecross the Boltons, is going. I mean, if Cersei manages to alienate the Reach, the North AND Dorne. Then she is truly ****** . Baelish will backstab her in a moment, and then the civil war is complete yet again.
#37 - anon (05/18/2015) [-]
For readers of the books, that would be incredibly boring.
For readers of the books, that would be incredibly boring.
User avatar #33 - Sacrifice (05/18/2015) [-]
Fairly sure I read somewhere that this is more of a filler season because they're catching up with the books too quickly.
User avatar #30 - theflyingbiscuit (05/18/2015) [-]
But the show is pretty much ahead of the book. Really it's all over the timeline, but still.
#24 - PSpepper (05/18/2015) [-]
The problem is the show is going faster than the books, so they have two options:
A. Follow the books and end up spoiling things for the people who have been reading for years.
B. Divert from the story line and not spoil things.
#23 - anon (05/18/2015) [-]
>implying the books are better
#27 to #23 - tacoperson (05/18/2015) [-]
they cut out all the best characters and also killed off other good characters that weren't supposed to die.
and by that I mean they killed barristan selmy.
