He's talking about sport video games. If it were sports then I doubt that (assuming he's a native english speaker) he/she would've put "games" after sports.

My mindset is that the untrained novice is much deadlier than a trained professional. Pros are easy to predict, whereas novices are completely unpredictable.

depends on what the subject is, if we are talking about martial arts for an example, the pros know how to be unpredictable and vice versa.

Its not entirely wrong, but only works in the short run. A good chess player can definitely be thrown for a loop in the first few turns when playing with an amateur, but those unconventional plays will shoot him in the foot in the mid game. Also feints typically fail horribly vs amateurs, who may never notice the intentional opening.
