But where did the idea originate? Is there hard evidence of like a Pope or Cardinal doing it? Or is it just some made up stereotypical bs?

There have been multiple accounts of molestation in the Catholic church. Many young boys have come forward about their experiences, and instead of denying it, the church protects the priests or cardinals from getting in trouble.
Recently, a huge scandal with the Boy Scouts emerged where numerous events of child molestation have come to surface.

It's everywhere in religious communities.

In all fairness, it's not just religious communities. Is it really that shocking that the Catholic Church, an entire culture which stresses forgiveness, would continue to practice this principle with its own members? What those ministers did was inexcusable, but for an organization working to abolish the death penalty and abortion, this can't seem too out of place.

I mean nobody should be surprised at the Catholic Church protecting its members. The ministers who molested the children are certainly immoral, but the church trying to protect them is, in a sense, a demonstration of the lessons they have been teaching for centuries.

The church is in no place to forgive. The only people who can forgive in that situation are the children who were violated. It's a smack in their faces and the faces of their family when a member of a church violates a young boy and gets away with it.

The Church has every right to forgive who it will. Whether you think that has any validity is of no concern to them. I'm sure they would never condone the actions of those ministers, but they are free to treat their members as they see fit.

The whole system is corrupted. Hell, the head honcho claims to have god on speed dial. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pope has molested a child before (probably not while he's been the Pope). Cardinals, priests, etc. all get some choir boy ass.

I can't forgive the James Holmes or Adam Lanza for shooting up a theater or school. I'm not in that position. Only the people affected by it can truly forgive. I don't like pulling a no true Scotsman fallacy, but that's all I can really think of to get my point across.

Think about it this way. You murder someone's family, but later feel incredible regret, soul crushing regret. You beg for forgiveness from the only living family member, but instead some lady who saw the story on the news comes up to you and says, "I forgive you for murdering that family." You probably wouldn't accept that forgiveness, would you?
