I seriously ******* hate art so god damn much. And before you idiots start saying **** like HERP DERP VIDEO GAMES ARE ART! TV IS ART! MOVIES ARE ART! Just shut the **** up. I mean museum **** . **** specifically made to go in a museum or hang up on a wall. Sculptures, paintings, and **** like that. If you are going to school to become an artist then you're just a complete ******* idiot. You will never make it in the real world. There's a reason for the term starving artist. There are millions of other people out there who are just as good if not better than you. Millions. What do you call an art graduate? Unemployed.
#107 to #34 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
Lol, all these people thinking this guy is serious. That same comment has been posted several times. A troll wins when others get mad.

You're literally throwing your life away. You will never find a job. You should get a real degree so you can get an actual job. You're just wasting your time and money. Enjoy being unemployed.

you've never seen one painting you liked? sculpture? anything??

not one?
#116 to #104 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
Not that I obsess over. "Oh cool" and move on with my life. It doesn't do anything productive to just stare at a painting for 5 minutes.
User avatar #101 to #34 - rplix (07/20/2013) [-]
You sound like a fun person at parties.
#117 to #101 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
... i am. I'm a very social guy. How the **** does me not liking to stare at a stupid picture for 10 minutes make me boring? I would actually rather be doing something rather than that. That's just a waste of time.
User avatar #142 to #117 - sanguinesolitude (07/20/2013) [-]
its more the inability to accept things others like that makes me doubt you are fun. You hate art, music, tattoos, and just about everything else I've seen you discuss (get a freakin profile already you are here all the time,) and you dont accept other's opinions as valid. So yeah, i doubt you would be fun to hang out with since everything everyone says you would **** on.
#144 to #142 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/21/2013) [-]
I accept things that aren't stupid. I don't hate music... what the **** are you talking about? But yes tattoos and art are 2 things I hate. The problem is their opinions are wrong. I don't **** on anything good, just the bad things.

User avatar #90 to #34 - artjunk (07/20/2013) [-]
Damn, it'd be a shame for you to have to be alone with your own thoughts and think for a second....
#120 to #90 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
I'd rather be thinking about important **** . Staring at a picture does nothing productive.
User avatar #148 to #120 - artjunk (07/21/2013) [-]
That's like saying an oil change does nothing productive. If the machine is modified and maintained, you do more in the long run. If you take the time to augment your way of thinking here and there, you are better able to make changes that keep you on the better path. I appreciate that you are focused on being productive, but art gives some people the means to use their sense of productivity more effectively.
#150 to #148 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/21/2013) [-]
What the **** ? an oil change does something extremely important... it keeps the car in working order. Art makes people less productive, not more. They waste time staring at a picture while they could be doing something valuable with their time.

You are a child

Art is meant to Share your soul with people. To Send a message. To inspire

Since cavemen drew on walls, art has told a story throughout our history. It's vital to us, and is a treasured part of our society

You still need to grow up and see that
User avatar #97 to #37 - samjamfan (07/20/2013) [-]
he is talking about that framed blank canvas that sells for millions. not beautiful ****
#60 to #37 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
I'm not a child... i'm 20. I'm not that old but definitely not a child. Art is stupid and a waste of ******* time. People go to museums so they can feel "cultured" and think highly of themselves. They relate art with the upper class so they go because that's what they're expected to do. They conform to the idea of this is what cultured people do. Then they stare at a painting for 5 minutes and pretend it's meaningful and deep when it isn't. It's a painting.
User avatar #98 to #60 - phtholognyrrh (07/20/2013) [-]
1) i go to museums because i find art to be fascinating. how did they do it? what did they do that was revolutionary? what does this mean to me?
2) just because youre not a child by legal standards doesnt mean you dont have the mentality of a child. talking to you (from my mostly third party view) is reminiscent of attempting to get a toddler to eat broccoli, although your language skills are slightly more advanced.
#127 to #98 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
1. With a ******* paintbrush and hours of wasted time that could have been used doing something actually productive. It isn't revolutionary at all. It's meaningless and stupid. It means absolutely nothing to you.
2. How is it anything like your broccoli example? Eating broccoli is good so the child can be healthy. Art has no benefits to me.
User avatar #128 to #127 - phtholognyrrh (07/20/2013) [-]
broccoli is relevant because logic and reasonability are obviously things you avoid like the plague, akin to a toddler avoiding greens.
#130 to #128 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
I don't avoid logic... I use it. Staring at a picture does absolutely nothing productive. You could be doing a lot more important things with your time. It is actually illogical to stare at a picture of a shoe for 5 minutes trying to understand it. You accomplish nothing by doing that.
User avatar #132 to #130 - phtholognyrrh (07/20/2013) [-]
because reflection does nothing for you.

if it werent for painted art, the camera would never have been invented. the television would never have been invented. video games, computers, advanced aeronautics, space flight. all of these things would have been severely delayed if the desire to represent an image more realistically had never been acted on.
#139 to #132 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
I've already said this, art used to be very significant and important, it no longer is. We have replaced it with better things. It's not relevant anymore in the modern day. We no longer have a need for it.
#77 to #60 - paronix (07/20/2013) [-]
You're just completely imprinting here. You think that people only go to museums, or art shows and the like because they're "expected" to?

That people stare at the art for a few minutes, pretend they understand it and that it means something, when really they don't give a **** or understand it at all.

This is just YOU imprinting on other people. Just because you're too ******* inbred to take something meaningful away from something that someone poured their soul into doesn't mean the rest of us are.

And your ridiculous argument about "why bother if there is someone better than me" is just.. holy **** , how retarded are you? So I shouldn't graduate and become a software engineer because I'm not bill gates? So there should be no new surgeons because they can't live up to Leo Bokeria? Don't be so utterly ******* simple minded.

tldr; Just because you're an uncultured bigot doesn't mean everyone else is. And despite your age, thehumor is right - You're a child. Grow up.

#129 to #77 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
I'm not inbred or a bigot... and I don't take anything meaningful out of it because there is nothing meaningful to take out. It's a picture, nothing more. It isn't that amazing. I'm not amazed at a box of cereal and it's pictures either. They're all just ******* pictures. Art graduates have the #2 highest employment rate out of ANY degree. The first is architecture. That's why people shouldn't waste their time. They should get a real useful degree that can help society rather than paint pictures for a living. Growing up involves staring at some stupid picture for minutes? Yeah no i'd rather not waste my time with that. "NAHHH MAN YOU JUST DON'T GET IT! IT'S TOO DEEP MANNNN!!!" No it ******* isn't. It's a ******* soup can, get over it.
#63 to #60 - thehumor (07/20/2013) [-]
Well if you look at it like a ******* machine, then yes, art serves no purpose. But look at like like a person. A person with experiences, dreams, fears, friends, family, etc. Art can bring out emotions in you. It can express who you are, and you can relate to it.
#131 to #63 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
But it's not a person nor a machine. It's just a ******* picture. An inanimate object. It serves no purpose and does nothing to further society.

That view is immature, lame, and silly. Art is important to help move culture forward and allow us to be more expressive, it can be political, commercial, popular, or personal. It expresses both beauty and ugliness, the best and the worst of humanity. Art influences philosophic thought, inventions, the way we think, our cultural identity, etc. Is all art good? no. But dedicating yourself to your passion is certainly equal in value to being a cashier at mcdonalds or just about any other low end soul crushing job.

I suppose musicians are useless too, and comic book artists, graphic designers, clothing designers, architects, etc.

yeah i know its a copypaste troll, but **** it. oh and i'm not an artist.
#64 to #36 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
Culture will do just fine without art. Sure years ago it was more important but in the modern day it's lost it's relevance. Also did you not ******* read my comment? I'm not talking about graphic designers or any **** like that, i'm specifically talking about art pieces.

you thinking it has lost its relevance doesn't mean art has actually lost its relevance. Most artistic people even in related fields pay attention to the art world and trends, and it spills over into their work. Even if it doesnt, art is primarily about the artist expressing themselves, and letting what is inside them into the world for others to experience. You may not like it, but that in itself is a reaction provoked by artwork. If you react to it, it is doing its job. I for one very much enjoy art, and often we dont see its effect until later sometimes much later. the sculpture shown was part of the futurist movement and was made in 1912. Many sci-fi robots have been influenced by said movement, in 2009 a composer made a piece named after it, it was featured on the Euro coin, etc. So even a century later it continues to influence writers, architects, poets, musicians, and everyday people. Art transcends language and deals in emotions, like it or hate it, its doing what it is supposed to.

just because an anonymous 12 year old doesn't get art, doesn't mean it isn't an important creative engine even in the modern world. Museums are barely the realm of modern (not the genre modern) art. Its shared on facebook, put in public places, galleries, tumblr, deviantart, hell even funnyjunk. Just be a bit more open minded and less judgemental, yes art critics can be pretentious and douchey, and much of post-modern art is more about the psychological story and reaction than about the content, but that doesnt apply to everything. We dont hate music because there justin bieber and one direction exist, dont hate art based on the bits of it you dont like.

Umberto Boccioni is one of my favorites
#134 to #86 - xxxsonic fanxxx (07/20/2013) [-]
I don't give a **** about what's inside an artist who is expressing himself. Keep it to your damn self. Keep art as a ******* hobby, not a career. I don't want to experience some emo **** that some artist painted while high on meth at 3 AM in his dark bedroom. That **** is stupid. When an artist makes something they're not expecting people to say I hate this **** , they want people to go ahhh and ohhhhh. This is not the reaction they wanted. This is the opposite reaction. They did not intend on getting hatred. I'm not 12... i'm 20. I actually hate when someone posts a picture of art on facebook or some **** , I don't give a **** about it. I didn't make a facebook in order to look at art. People look at art so they can feel good about themselves for being "cultured" because that's what everyone else does.

Art was only important to people many years ago. We no longer have a need for it. Want a picture of yourself hung up on the wall? Take a ******* picture. You don't need to sit there for 5 hours while some guy paints you. The camera replaced the paintbrush.
