it's not the knowledge so much as getting defensive on the internet over a common mistake between two similar hats, both of which are associated with people that wear them in stained anime shirts and cargo shorts, thinking it makes them look like 20's gangsters or indiana jones

I don't think anyone can pull of the fedora look unless they're in a nice suit or 60+ years old.
And if you're wearing one with an anime shirt on-Let me correct that, if you're wearing an anime shirt in public at all over age 12, you should seriously reevaluate your life choices.

You are an judgmental ignorant.
In my company just about everyone wears geeky t-shirts. Some are anime. We are talking about people with masters and engineering degrees in late twenties or early thirties, most of us are either in long term relationship or married, quite a lot of people have children.
And we enjoy geeky stuff. Half of our stuff on our desks is from sites like thinkgeek. We have a post work D&D game running now three years. And yes, quite a lot of us likes anime.
And if you judge people in general while you know nothing about them, then its you who should reevaluate your life. I quite like mine.

That is very impressive.
Though I kinda doubt it. Because successful, self confident people don't need to judge entire groups. That's something done by little people with little minds who need to tear someone down to make themselves feel better.
And just to preempt you here. I've reacted to your judgement, and haven't judged entire group, just one person based on their behavior.

Are you ******* kidding, maybe your friends have masters in whatever field they chose, but you must be the common jester they keep around to make them laugh when he says something stupid.

I'd say one of the most confident and successful people that was around and in power during the 40's would of been Adolph Hitler. Hitler sure was ******* successful. Hitler also hated Jews, Homosexuals, and a lot of other groups.

I love anime. I watch it all the time. Most of my spare time is spent watching anime. I'm not going to insult you, I don't want to argue, but you know nothing about us and yet you still try and act all high and mighty?
Honestly that is sad and i just feel sorry for you.
Stop acting like because someone isn't with you they're against you. I have nothing against people who express their love for something through clothing etc.
What I do have a problem with is people like you who just take shots in the dark and act like you're actually accomplishing someone by insulting them over the internet.
Good day sir.

Ok, let me try one more time.
I don't care about anime. I do like it, I do watch it, but since I haven't actually finished watching an entire series since Ghost in the Shell in 2003 I'm hardly a hardcore fan.
I'm not defending anime here. I'm upset because you generalized something fairly common such as wearing a geeky anime t-shirt, and decided that everyone who wears it needs a life.
Truth is there are people out there who take liking something from normal levels to unhealthy obsessions that then control their lives. That's the reason why people who like Star Trek call themselves trekkers to distance themselves from trekkies, that's why people will say "I like my little pony but I'm not a brony."
But truth is also that most people by far who like something have just a normal non obsessive relationship to it. there is a big difference to someone who wears, say, a "Berserk" t-shirt, and someone who wears a t-shirt with his waifu printed on it. And lumping them together is just ignorant.

Okay first off thanks for being civil about this and explaining your position. It's a lot better than just screaming insults like I have seen people do in the past. But you said "you" as if I was the guy who made the original comment that started this, when all I did was try to tell you that when you have this many red thumbs people by default stop paying attention to you, and the fact that you kept going only made it worse because (and I really don't mean to offend you here) it was clear that nobody was siding with you here and you ended up just sort of attacking people. I don't care if people wear anime t-shirts, hell I used to every now and then. I have no problems with it whatsoever. I respect what your standing for here but it just seems kind of useless to argue for it when it's clear people aren't taking very kindly to you here.

I didn't get defensive about that.
I got upset because I am so sick of idiots like skwurll hating on something because its "cool".
ITs rather sad and pathetic, and incredibly infantile.
I simply tried to point out that simply liking something does not make you inferior in any way. But that is very dangerous thing to do, because sheep are already stampedeing and saying that their mindless hatred is in any way wrong is a BAAAHHHD thing.

I don't hate on things because it's "cool" to do it. I don't hate anime.

There is nothing wrong with liking anime. ****, I watched it when I was 13.
However, if you are a full grown adult and wearing a shirt for a show about prepubescent kids with magic powers/giant robots/whatever the ****, you need to grow up so people will take you seriously.

Imagine you're at a luncheon for networking between two companies or something along those lines. You're the guy wearing a Death note shirt while everyone else is in business casual. As much as you were told otherwise, appearances ******* matter.

It's sad that you need to be told how to act like an adult by someone who's only (legally) been one for 2 years.

If you are ever in Cali, go visit silicone valley. Go to the major ass companies like Google and Apple.
You are only ever going to see a suit if its worn by a lawyer or for some meeting. But anime shirts, you will see hundreds of those.
And those are grown ass people. Millionaires some of them. Hell Sergey Brin used to have this wicked Ghost in the Shell t-shirt.
So judge away. But remember something, there are people, grown people, who wear anime t-shirts who make more money monthly then you will ever see in your entire life.

I didn't see the fedora/neckbeard meme start trending until after there was a lot of hoopla on the Interwebs about so-called Men's Rights Activists and how dumb the term friendzone is. Tumblr and Facebook exploded with people posting screens of people talking about being MRAs and being friendzoned, making fun of them. The fedora/neckbeard became the memetic mascot for this trend. So, basically, pseudo-feminists started FJ's favorite new insult.

It started when a guy on r/atheism (reddit) posted a pic of him with the text "In this moment I am euphoric....blessed by my own intelligence.". People found this funny, so they took pictures of fedora wearing people and photoshopped quotes on to them. People thought it was all real and this blew the fedora thing way out of proportion. The whole fedora neckbeard movement is basically guys who are most likely desperately looking for a style or trend to follow ,Or in other words big weird ass ************* triying to make themselves look good by wearing a cheesy hat that in their minds looks cool and mysterious. But in reality they look pretty pathetic mostly or just odd.

The whole connection with bronies, atheists and weird geeks in general happen afterwards but truth be told there are the exact same amount of neckbeards in each individual fandom in the end of the day

And the whole friendzone happened because a bunch of guys wearing fedoras post pictures of them ranting over girls being mean to them or just being general awkard as **** incaple wankers.

But most of them are just harmless ***** with a terrible sence of fashion thinking they look cool when most of them of ovbiously Not.

I saw several commercials where there were tall, handsome guys wearing fedoras with plaid collar shirts. They actually looked pretty good in a fedora, and it looked casual. I always thought that people were trying to pull that look off, but that is honestly a look impossible to pull off without being bred specifically to look like a douche bag writer who sits in cafes with their Mac writing a terrible book.
