I think that how something is portrayed will affect how it is perceived. so the number of thumbs I get on a comment does not in any way reflect its value or validity.
That being said, the number will change the way people perceive it and act towards the comment.

My goal on FJ is to post content that will make people feel good, and brighten their day, so if the likelihood of that happening can be increased by shopping something, I think that is a valid reason to do so.

That being said, I think it should be realistic so I should have either done a better job, or not done it at all.
