Sharpness isn't the only thing.
The claymore is sharp enough to through down with just about anything.
The claymore also has better reach than a katana. Also, the straighter blade makes it more effective against heavy armor because it has better piercing ability than the curved blade of the katana which was made more for slashing motions and stabbing lightly armored opponents.
I don't give a **** how sharp it is, european longswords, the claymore in particular, are much better than a katana.
If the weeaboos wanna dislike my comments and call me edgy, so be it

I should know what I’m talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that’s about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.
Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.
Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I’m pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.
Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That’s right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.
So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen

Just a friendly reminder that hair is a bitch to cut, that being said, that one hell of a sharp sword.

You're right in that it's a wakizashi, however the daito katana is not necessarily a two handed weapon - it can be used one handed, and I found I preferred nito ken to straight up single sword sparring when I was doing martial arts in my youth (pic isn't me, just shows what nito ken is) yes, confirmed weeb here
Tanto is a dagger. Shoto/wakizashi is sort of a half-size daito, which is usually just called a katana

not a weeb, i think anime is **** aswell and belongs in the trash. im just kinda interested in different cultures, and i happen to have an interest in melee weapons (or just weapons in general, and also armor) aswell.
also, dont call weebs weeabs, because there are no abs in a weeb. don't you agree?¨
pic 100% unrelated, it's an ulu knife, used for skinning animals more efficiently
i bet you thought i was for combat, didnt you
******* noob

acting like you cant use it for combat
"stones are made to lay on the ground...you arent supposed to throw them"
"stones are made to lay on the ground...you arent supposed to throw them"
okay okay, its DESIGNED to skin animals. of course you can use almost anything in a combat situation, but not everything is designed specifically to kill humans.
you wouldn't use a rifle or a katana to skin an animal either, but you could. it would just look severely retarded.

on the other hand i heard there are idiots swords to cut hair *implying*
>dont try so hard
i assume you are saying that saying "anime is trash" is only something thats true on reddit.
you are wrong
anime is trash everywhere

it would be ******* **** at it, the reason a dagger is useful with a rapier is because it can catch the rapier between the blade and quillons the things that make up the crossguard and it enables you to beat the rapier blade away with a sideswing of the dagger
That skinning knife would be absolutely useless for that

If you can catch the blade between something like that, then you can sure as hell use what is practically an axe head to block the sword as well. And if you get into the punching distance...
but the point of rapiers is to stay out of punching distance, if you get into punching distance, both of you will end up with a dagger in your guts.
Besides the left hand dagger, or main gauche or whatever you wanna call them, people did also use bucklers with rapiers, but daggers were more popular, they work better against a thrustcentric weapon, it's the triangle shape, the angle between the blade and quillon that you use to manipulate the opponents blade, and a buckler isnt as good at doing that, and that skinning knife would be useless at it. Yes you could beat a rapier to the side with the skinning knife, and you could with a buckler, and get within punching distance and you can punch in a big gash in a person, but nobody would wanna do that, when they are given a much better tool for the job - you can hammer a nail into a piece of wood with a spade as well, doesn't mean it's a good idea to do so.
