Calling Marines Soldiers is like calling a Japanese person a Korean. They may look the same to you, but it's completely different and is guaranteed to piss them off.

Anyone would get pissed off if they were related to the Japs.

Seriously, how would you feel if you were related to a group of autistic kids?

May I ask why? We don't have marines in New Zealand so I'm quite oblivious.

Calling us Chariot archers soldiers is like calling a Babylonian a Libyan. They may look the same to you, but it is completely different and is guaranteed to raise Anubis' wrath.

"A soldier is one who fights as part of an organized land-based armed force"
Marines are soldiers.

Marines aren't traditionally land-based, they're amphibious, thus marines.

You know, I always call you guys Army bitches but really, we're all service members and it's not that big of deal. We've all given everything to serve our country and were all willing to give the ultimate sacrifice.

So thank you, Soldier.

i dont get why calling them soldiers would piss them off? my understanding of the word "soldier" applies to anyone who is in the army and the word "marines" is a division within the army. I would love to be cleared up of any misunderstanding Thx

The Army and Marines are two completely different branches. No relation between the two division wise. Soldier is the term for someone in the Army and Marine is the term for someone in the Marine Corps. The closest you would be is that the Marines and Navy work essentially hand-in-hand. I'm a Soldier so I don't know anything more than the basics when it comes to the Marine/Navy dynamic.

I see, i always thought you would start off as a regular soldier then receive more training to become a marine. Thanks for clearing that up!

The army and marines go through separate training. The reason it will piss off marines when called soldiers is because there has always been kind of a rivalry between the army and the marine corps. Marines will call army pussies and the army will call the marines a bunch of dumb grunts. It's fun and friendly.

To my experience the marines and soldiers I talked to didn't much care what they were called, the ones that did were generally known as the dick heads by their respective branches. The one thing I did learn is never call a marine a boot unless you want to get your ass kicked.

Ha yeah that's one thing that will piss them off. I'm still in my school in the Marine Corps and I get called a boot once in a while by higher ranks. It doesn't really bother me. Not that I could do anything about it as a PFC anyway.
