My take on it is that they feel entitled to that level of respect that everyone should know exactly what their uniforms look like, what they do, and all the other little unimportant differences that no one but them and the people sucking their dicks, really cares about.

User avatar #81 to #74 - mutzaki (07/21/2013) [-]
I was just expressing my beliefs. "People sucking their dicks" was crudely put, but I simply meant the people that despite not being a member of a military entity, still think they deserve that same level of unrealistic respect.

As if anyone cares, MAR PAT is Marine Corps. camouflage.
If this was Army;
A: they would all be wearing A(rmy) C(ombat) U(niform), that hideous digital crap, and
B: an Army Drill Sergeant is referred to as such, Drill Sergeant. Marine Drill Instructors are referred to as "Sir," a title reserved for officers in the military.

You can always tell Marines from other branches when in camo because Marines roll their sleeves so the inside shows whereas AF/Army/Navy roll theirs so the outside shows. Unless it's a Navy Corpsman (medic) then they are also allowed to roll their sleeves Marine-style.
User avatar #43 to #39 - lcpldata (07/21/2013) [-]
We stopped rolling sleeves like a year ago. I miss how good they made us look.
#45 to #43 - tasomo (07/21/2013) [-]
You're ******** me. They stopped rolling sleeves??

Glad I got out when I did.
User avatar #54 to #45 - theoriginalzombie (07/21/2013) [-]
Ready for a bigger shock? MARPAT is either being phased out OR being made standard issue across all branches by 2018. I don't know which is worse. The plus side is that if all branches go back to the same pattern, CMC would be an idiot NOT to reinstate rolled up sleeves
#99 to #54 - gerfunkel (07/21/2013) [-]
Congress is trying to push MARpat on all the other branches, along with instating a new jungle/tropical camo. The CMC definitly won't ever reinstate rolled sleeves, just like he won't kill the tattoo policy. "Too much time and effort spent to go back to the ways we were." It's a god damn air wing conspiracy man
#106 to #99 - tasomo (07/21/2013) [-]
I....I've got nothing. "Hey, you know how we at least had defining characteristics that set you apart from other services to at least give you something to take pride in while even the Salvation Army had a bigger budget than you? Yeah, we're just gonna nix that but keep making you deal with the cheapest **** possible because, as always, **** you that's why."

If they were going to turn the Corps into the other branches the least they could've done was give us a bigger budget instead of saying "Adapt and overcome" every ******* day because nothing ever worked unless we jury-rigged it so much it defied physics.

Marines roll their sleeves so that the inside of the material is showing. The rest of the armed forces roll their sleeves so the outside is showing. Also, army recruits address their drill sergeants as such, ie: "Yes Drill Sergeant!" The marines are the branch which refers to their drill instructors as "Sir". Also, those are marine uniforms. They are different from the Army's. And the difference is very noticeable.

the marines original mission and the one that they'll return to after this war is amphibious assault. the army's is a land. they can both do each others job, but they specialize in separate types of combat.
the marine corps is also significantly smaller, they are under the navy in terms of funding, so they're given older weapons and ****** living quarters which just helps to piss them off and make them meaner.
also, every marine goes through additional combat training after boot camp, something that no other branch does.
User avatar #90 to #62 - propanex (07/21/2013) [-]

i dont get why calling them soldiers would piss them off? my understanding of the word "soldier" applies to anyone who is in the army and the word "marines" is a division within the army. I would love to be cleared up of any misunderstanding Thx
#10 to #9 - monkeybrains (07/21/2013) [-]
The Army and Marines are two completely different branches. No relation between the two division wise. Soldier is the term for someone in the Army and Marine is the term for someone in the Marine Corps. The closest you would be is that the Marines and Navy work essentially hand-in-hand. I'm a Soldier so I don't know anything more than the basics when it comes to the Marine/Navy dynamic.
#11 to #10 - jeengak (07/21/2013) [-]
I see, i always thought you would start off as a regular soldier then receive more training to become a marine. Thanks for clearing that up!
User avatar #14 to #11 - thegraypist (07/21/2013) [-]
The army and marines go through separate training. The reason it will piss off marines when called soldiers is because there has always been kind of a rivalry between the army and the marine corps. Marines will call army pussies and the army will call the marines a bunch of dumb grunts. It's fun and friendly.
User avatar #16 to #14 - jellykuba (07/21/2013) [-]
To my experience the marines and soldiers I talked to didn't much care what they were called, the ones that did were generally known as the dick heads by their respective branches. The one thing I did learn is never call a marine a boot unless you want to get your ass kicked.
User avatar #18 to #16 - thegraypist (07/21/2013) [-]
Ha yeah that's one thing that will piss them off. I'm still in my school in the Marine Corps and I get called a boot once in a while by higher ranks. It doesn't really bother me. Not that I could do anything about it as a PFC anyway.
User avatar #21 to #18 - vatra (07/21/2013) [-]
