This is in the national gallery of art, and I had to write a report on what it means. Why?

i once visited the Tate museum in Liverpool, UK and one of the artworks was a plain white toilet with the artists signature on it. i immediately understood the meaning of it.

art is now just a toilet with with someones name on it.

also, there was a can with feces in it.

La Fontaine by Marchelle Duchamp is the toilet you are referring to. You may ask "why the **** is that in there?". The reason is that it was a major **** you to art elitists who would only accept realistic classical paintings as art. It revolutionized what people believed was art. It opened up a whole new dimension of art accessible to almost everyone regardless of skill level.

Imagine the whole idea of abstract art as a sort of parallel to free speech. Sure some people can abuse it (i.e. Westboro Baptist Church), but then again it also you to express yourself much more freely even though your ideas may go against social norms.

By the way, immediately judging something you don't understand or didn't take the time to understand is the same as saying all videogames are garbage and should be banned for promoting violence.

Please forgive any grammar mistakes, I was too lazy to proof read.

ah...the subtle message portrayed here about the meaning of life and how futile human's efforts are in finding meaning in the chaotic universe....

...either that or it's some ******* squares
