Actually they do, every day. Light is made out of photons of different wavelengths, and some of those can go through your whole body, like gamma rays, or X-rays that bounce off your bones and other high density masses, or UV light which penetrates your skin. You are exposed to all of those at all times, however it's a very small exposure, but it happens whether you want it or not.
