Just about the entirety of Western Europe, excluding the UK, uses a similar one.
You have Belgian AZERTY, French AZERTY, Dutch AZERTY, German AZERTY, etc.
Each with their own respective little accents for the various languages.
It's a pain playing games that don't: a) immediately switch to QWERTY upon playing it, or b) you have to re-map all the keys yourself
To be truly weird, you need to use a DVORAK keyboard layout.
Never seen this layout in The Netherlands, or ever for that matter.
And after a quick Google search I've found out that only French speaking country's use it.
So no clue why you say that most western Europe uses it.
Eh, maybe it isn't as common as I thought.
I just know a few Dutch who're very much used to the layout, and I've pretty much used this in my entire life, despite not being french.
standard QWERTY in Poland, we've been using QWERTZ pre 90s on writting machines, but we transfered, like anyone with a brain should do, to a standard english keyboard.
to get polish symbols we just use right alt.
It's stuff like this that makes me not leave my house.
