Speaking of, I'm calling ******** how many apes survived this..
You really think all the apes on horseback could handle guns well enough to not totally shoot the **** out of each other by accident? Sure they're smart, but intelligence is not the same as experience.
Also.. Kodo shoulda been shot the **** up so many times.. he's got that Storm trooper effect on people..

My main question was, how did they know how to reload/clean/handle the guns?

Otherwise, I thought it was a surprisingly good movie, the script kept you on edge about who would incite war first, and the fact that it wasn't a "dumb hoomans want war" ******** crap film actually made me really like this movie.

They probably didn't reload/clean/handle the guns well at all. The first thing that they do with the guns in the film was smash them with rocks, and the smartest thing that they do with the guns is carry them by the straps.
Koba studied the weapon testers before killing them and taught the other apes how to use the rifles.
And since they ransacked the armoury, they probably had enough guns for the whole invasion, to not worry about a few of them malfunctioning.

I love this movie but I have to call ******** on the fact that they thought the humans were gone after not seeing any for two years, and didn't think to check the city that they escaped from in the first place.

Koba studied the weapon testers before killing them and ransacking the armory, and that's probably how he taught the other apes to fire the guns. But, you're probably right in the fact that the apes probably killed more of their own than they did to the humans when you consider that in the scene, they noticeably do much more collateral damage with the exception of the explosives to both sides than the humans.

Koba probably didn't die for cinematic effect. and the fact that since his evolved ape arms could wield two heavy machine guns, the humans were most likely hiding behind cover.
