Ring around the rosie isn't actually about the black plague.

It is.

(For added effect, read the italic parts in a creepy child's voice)
Ring around the rosie
(Red cheeks were a sign of bubonic plague)
A pocketful of posies
(Many superstitious peasants carried herbal charms to ward off the plague. It didn't work. Could also be a reference to the herbal concoctions carried in the beak of a plague doctor's mask)
Ashes, ashes
(Infected bodies were burned)
We all fall down
(People were literally dying in the streets, and the plague killed off a third of Europe's entire ******* population)
