Because the way lightbulbs are designed, the point that can withstand the most pressure is the top. So once inserted, it won't shatter because it can stand the pressure. However, if it's tried to be pulled from the bottom, it would shatter with only a few pounds of pressure. So that's why, in the show, they needed to push it out from the top and not pull it.
