HIV is like herpes, you can never really call it cured, per se (at least with the current state of the art medicine), because it's a lysogenic virus and stays in the host cells. It just falls below dangerous levels.

The new treatment is basically the same as what we've been using (antivirals) -- just more of them and earlier use. The virus isn't gone from the body, just crippled so the risk of developing AIDS is essentially zero.
