because showing us cool experiments would make us smarter. seriously? why does everyone on funnyjunk act like teachers are retarded. it's very difficult to be a teacher and just because the topic may not be the most interesting doesn't mean you're not learning

They can't teach you the cool stuff if you don't understand the basics.

Yes, I suppose they could try. First we have to petition our government to care more about education than test scores.

Exactly, we shouldn't pass kids if they don't understand the material. That's the dumbest thing in the world.

But you know, it's not what we do, it's more how and why we do it. Consider the reason behind why people dislike school in general: It's forced work for no reward. If we were forced to sit and ''learn'' from watching interesting gifs for 1000 hours or so a year, we'd get bored within 50, leaving 950 hours left of boredom.

As a high school student, I know I don't grasp the entire picture perfectly, but I know that forcing me to do things have never gotten me interested in them. I get the equivalent of an A in marketing, because it was a class I chose myself. My grades aren't all that good, but I felt, since it was the first time I was allowed to pick what I wanted to learn, that I should make an effort.

As an additional example, let me take spanish: I've been studying the language for about 5 years now, and only now, when it's basically over, do I actually have the slightest interest in it. Dictating me to learn ''this'' or ''that'' never gets me to want to learn anything, which is actually often more important than many other factors. If I had more freedom, I'm pretty sure I'd make more of an effort.

And even though math>marketing (since I'm going to study programming after high school), I get a D in math, because I don't feel any obligation to make an effort in something I was forced to do for no reward, other than a pat on the shoulder and an empty promise that it will benefit my future (Do I even need spanish as a programmer? Or history?).

Many classes are more of a ''you should most likely know this'' class than a ''you NEED to know this'', which I feel just takes time I could've spent learning how to program, or do other things that I won't forget within a year after not needing it any more.

Pic isn't related, I just picked something from my picture folder.
Sorry for wall of text.

TL;DR: School is boring, so I'm not motivated to learn, Pic wasn't related.

P.s: I'm sure I could rant a lot more, but I'm sure nobody really likes wall-of-text comments.

I don't disagree with you, however, earlier in the year. my functions and trig teacher went on an hour-long rant to someone who made a comment just like yours.

She started out by showing us a powerpoint filled with pictures of the schools in other countries. They basically looked like ****. She then started telling us about how lucky we were that we had an education system like we do that had almost endless resources if we want them, yada yada.

But her point was basically that we may not NEED all of this stuff when we're older, but that we should be learning the things we're taught in school simply because we can. We have the opportunity to have all this knowledge, and that since other people in the world don't have that advantage and opportunity, we should really appreciate it. And while I agree with you, she does have a point. People in other parts of the world would kill to be able to go to schools like ours, and just because you won't need a certain class or skill when you're older, you should learn it just because you can.

No, I mean: Literally three seconds after. I was shocked and apalled. I never thought I'd get such a quick response without resorting to the usage of tits. Thumbed ya up because IDC If you read it or not, and you make a nice point by blatantly stating what most people do against these kinds of wall-of-text comments.

Well, to answer your question, I shall answer in verse

'Tis a fleeting interest which possesseth me,
When awe inspiring gif I view solely.
Knowledge, I desireth, for its sake only,
Education lasteth for an eternity.

Exactly, watching a bullet hit a quarter, or cross sections of an entire human body played in quick succession might be fun to watch, but its the "boring" stuff (math&physics) that build bridges, advance medicine, and develop agriculture so that the global community can thrive and proper. But the young midns on this website don wanna hear dat *****!
