because showing us cool experiments would make us smarter. seriously? why does everyone on funnyjunk act like teachers are retarded. it's very difficult to be a teacher and just because the topic may not be the most interesting doesn't mean you're not learning

They can't teach you the cool stuff if you don't understand the basics.

But you know, it's not what we do, it's more how and why we do it. Consider the reason behind why people dislike school in general: It's forced work for no reward. If we were forced to sit and ''learn'' from watching interesting gifs for 1000 hours or so a year, we'd get bored within 50, leaving 950 hours left of boredom.

As a high school student, I know I don't grasp the entire picture perfectly, but I know that forcing me to do things have never gotten me interested in them. I get the equivalent of an A in marketing, because it was a class I chose myself. My grades aren't all that good, but I felt, since it was the first time I was allowed to pick what I wanted to learn, that I should make an effort.

As an additional example, let me take spanish: I've been studying the language for about 5 years now, and only now, when it's basically over, do I actually have the slightest interest in it. Dictating me to learn ''this'' or ''that'' never gets me to want to learn anything, which is actually often more important than many other factors. If I had more freedom, I'm pretty sure I'd make more of an effort.

And even though math>marketing (since I'm going to study programming after high school), I get a D in math, because I don't feel any obligation to make an effort in something I was forced to do for no reward, other than a pat on the shoulder and an empty promise that it will benefit my future (Do I even need spanish as a programmer? Or history?).

Many classes are more of a ''you should most likely know this'' class than a ''you NEED to know this'', which I feel just takes time I could've spent learning how to program, or do other things that I won't forget within a year after not needing it any more.

Pic isn't related, I just picked something from my picture folder.
Sorry for wall of text.

TL;DR: School is boring, so I'm not motivated to learn, Pic wasn't related.

P.s: I'm sure I could rant a lot more, but I'm sure nobody really likes wall-of-text comments.

Well, to answer your question, I shall answer in verse

'Tis a fleeting interest which possesseth me,
When awe inspiring gif I view solely.
Knowledge, I desireth, for its sake only,
Education lasteth for an eternity.

What is being shown on this site is physics and chemistry, to get to those levels has a high requirement from calculus and others which most people don't even bother trying. People think math doesn't do anything in the future but without the math there's no science.

What's wrong with other subjects? I love science, I hope to study Geophysics at University, but that doesn't mean that I don't value other subjects. I study English Literature as an extra subject and I adore it! I would even go as far as saying it's one of the highlights of my week. True, knowing the contexts of "Paradise Lost" or the influences of the Romantic movement aren't going to improve anyone's quality of living; artistic subjects such as English, Classics and Art can definitely improve quality of life.

In short: While Science and Politics take priority because they can improve our quality of living, I believe the world needs art, literature, music and classics in order to make crucial social connections and to give us an alternative creative outlet because believe it or not, not everyone is good at/enjoys science.

We are hardly learning here in funnyjunk. Sure you see really neat stuff, but science is more than just looking at neat things people have done. You have to know how it works, the equations and all the BORING STUFF SCHOOL TEACHES YOU. *************** is just a channel where people post neat looking stuff for everyone to ooh and aah over, whether it's really good or not, or a repost, and get a bunch of thumbs.
