I ******* hate Neil DeGrasse Tyson.

He's a glorified poet pretending to know what the **** he is talking about.

The man has 2 PhDs and a masters degree... during his early years as a scientist he published a number of peer-reviewed papers (many of which he earned honors for) in the fields of Astronomy, Stellar Evolution, and Astrophysics. I'm pretty sure he has some general idea of what the **** he is talking about.

He may be able to see all of that.

Well, didn't he just took Carl Sagan (always thought it was Stephen Hawking who said it, my bad) "We are made of stardust" and elaborate it?...

I don't like thinking about things like this, it makes me realise just how insignificant we are... yet at the same time, how amazing it is that we even exist. We're the product of billions of years worth of change and progress, and there is undoubtedly others like us whom we may never contact. Thinking about how small we are, how brilliant we are, and how everything came from a single event really is a little bit overwhelming.

We are the universe; a universe which has changed and evolved to the point where it begins to question its own existence.

I like thinking about how insignificant we truly are. Maybe I'm over-thinking it, or maybe I'm not right in the head, but when I think about the scale of the universe and how completely insignificant I am within it, I feel small and unworthy, sure, but I also feel free.

Think about it. Every day we cloud our lives with more responsibilities, more and more things we should or shouldn't do. School, money, college, job, house, family, friends, keeping fit, keeping healthy, having fun, eating, sleeping, reading... the list of tasks we assign ourselves is endless.

But we'll be lucky to live to a hundred years. In the scale of the universe, a hundred years is like five seconds. We will make no impact on anything other than each other. So why assign ourselves so much? Why weigh yourself down with unnecessary pressures? If nothing we ever do is important, nothing has to matter. But then, a meaningless life is not worth living, so we give ourselves meaning. Humanity needs meaning.

Make up your own meaning. When you think about it, there's no reason to conform to anyone else's. You may as well just do what matters to you.
