They're both idiots. Earthquakes can't change the earth's orbit. There needs to be interaction with another object. If there didn't need to be interaction with other objects, then probes would never use things lik ion engines and would instead just use some sort of pendulum effect to swing their way into different orbits.
That said, there are many other effects that would take us out of the BS "habitable zone," as there are many interactions with many other objects. A few of those meteors might do it.
