saw the TED talk about this.
an extremely shor pulsed laser is shot through the bottle an "immense" number of times per second.
the camera takes an image at an even grater speed (immense x speed-of-light-capture x framerate)
now since we have multiple exposures of each position of the light, we have enough light to make it visible on film (this is the problem with normal time lapse photography of light)
as each exposure of each position is being computed to the correct place in the timeline of the film, it is also nescecary to correct for relativistic physics. just after the end of the gif, we can see the cascadeing of the light pulsing towards the bottle, because of einsteinian physics. with correction we will see the expected rainbow pattern emerging, pulsing outwards of the bottle.
