The Earths climate acts like a scale. It constantly sways from the warm side to the cold side. Yes, it is a natural thing for the Earth to heat up. And the Earth counteracts it by cooling down. If there is an increase of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the earth will heat up. And due to the pollution, less sunlight reaches the Earths surface, which results in the Earth cooling down. However, we are having a more dramatic effect on the atmosphere. We basically have placed a weight at one side of the scale and have tipped it to the extreme. Every day, more greenhouse gasses go up into our atmosphere. The Earth will balance out again, but it will most likely result in an ice age when it does.

It's a combination of both, there's no need to be so ******* black and white about this **** .
A small part is caused by humans building up greenhouse gases in certain areas, sure it makes sense.
But mostly it's natural change, sure we probably we sped up the process, but not nearly as much as some people say.

This is the kind of **** that makes me not want to come to this site. I would like to know where you got their ideas on global warming, especially seeing that a lot of scientists have dismissed the idea that its mostly our fault, and thats its a natural warming cycle or more likely, the combined result of agriculture.(Most scientists agree with the ruddiman hypothesis, which says that the accumulation of greenhouse gasses started with the advent of agriculture. Look it up)

Ok, so we as humans emit carbon dioxide. So even if we didn't have carbon pollution wouldn't we still be screwed anyway?
User avatar #85 to #84 - domitius (12/16/2012) [-]
but conservation of mass means that no more additional pollutants can actually be created or destroyed.

>Overwhelming evidence that CO2 has a large effect on weather patterns (accepted by IPCC and most universities around the world, as well as scientific community in general)
>Overwhelming evidence that humans emit large amounts of CO2
>MFW people accept these but claim nothing is happening
>BONUS: MFW people say it's not 100% sure when nothing in science is 100% sure

No matter what, we should still stay skeptical/critical to all scientific theories as we should anything else in life, that's the basis of scientific thought after all.

I don't know enough about the topic to make a judgement call on it, but it seems that the current status of global warming is contrary to the way science is supposed to work. Right now it's like "Hey, I'm not convinced that human interference is the sole cause of global warming" the reaction is usually "Shut the **** up you idiot!". This is a red flag in the field of science, because it's supposed to welcome or at least hear-out dissenting opinions.

There are some areas of science that are absolute and you would in fact be stupid to disagree with. If someone says "I don't believe we are made up of cells" you can use a microscope to show them undeniable proof. However if someone tries to say that "the earth is on a road to destruction and we're to blame" you better expect some ******* skepticism if you're making this claim based ice cores and assumptions made about the long term cycles that we've been keeping track of for less than a century.

There's a simple reason why "I doubt climate change" is the "N-Word" of science. The people that believe in it are very invested in it both mentally and financially. If your field is dealing with climate change you'd be betting against yourself to suggest otherwise. Also, there's tons of money to be made in "green" industries. Then you've got companies that want to cash in on "going green" whether it's warranted or not. Then you've got bandwagoning were big names throw their weight behind it with little-to-no knowledge on the subject.

I'm not challenging climate change at this time, just the culture in the scientific community that has lead to dissent becoming taboo on this subject. People will talk of this "tipping point" where the science is settled and those that say otherwise are "idiots", but I think it has less to do with science and more to do with the fact that anyone "qualified" to make a call has a vested interest in climate change (climatologists are only relevant as a result of it). /rant

lets look at facts shall we?
Carbon Dioxide is a green house gas...which causes the heat to be trapped within atmosphere (example: Venus)
Trees and other plants create Oxygen (not a greenhouse gas)
Cars and factories and humans produce Carbon Dioxide
we are chopping down trees
we are making more cars and increasing the population
THE EARTH WILL GET WARMER RETARDS
