Using the Pauli exclusion principle, Klechkowski rule, Hund's rule of maximum multiplicity we can deduce an electronic configuration that contains both shells and sub-shells.
Using the Octet rule we can tell that every atom bonds in a certain way to complete 8 electrons in it's valence shell which explains atoms like HCl and H2O....
However that rule does not explain atoms like XeF2 ; PCl5 .....
So here we apply the expanded octet rule to form hypervalent molecules .
This is as far as I know.
