See this little ant up there with some kind of fancy
antenna on its little head?
That is not an antenna made for that specific ant at all.
That is part of a parasite that comes from some
mushrooms. This parasite is very peculiar, due to the fact
that it goes into the brain of the ant, and starts making the
ant changing its behavior. is getting controlled. When
the parasite is at its max, it will then proceed to kill the
ant entirely, after it has forced it to a high ground, so the
parasite can make that little antenna. From the ball of the
antenna, spores will then drop, and get in the air, possibly
going on to the infected ant' s colony, meaning intire
colonies has been killed by this parasite.
Ants infected by this parasite, is called , you
can figure out why that is..
Now, since there actually is a parasite, able to makes
zombies, then the question is whether it' s possible for this
parasite to be able to mutate so much, that it' s able to
infect the humankind. .
Most of the diseases we have nowadays, actually originate
from animals, . typhus is originally from ratifiers, that
would infect rats, which would the infect humans with the
decease.
So, it is actually possible that there one day will be a
zombieapocalypse!

It's called the 'Cordeyceps fungus'. It's actually the fungus that causes infection in The Last Of Us, so Naughty Dog thinks that one day it will infect humans as well

Well it's not going to be like they're flesh eating dead people of that happens. Most likely, they're just going to be overpowered and go to a high ground spreading a gas and kill us all. No zombie shooting, no deciding what to do with an infected guy in your team, nothing like any movie, which equals... not fun..

If I'm wrong just tell me so, but I doubt it's going to be a flesh eating rotten corpse that chases us

Additional fact: The team that developed "The Last Of Us" (Naughty Dog) saw a video about this particular fungal parasite and became intrigued with it, they then decided that it might be a good idea to base a game around it. Glad as **** they did.

I thought a relatively similar process occurs
if certain insects just consume large amounts of mycelium.

So do they taste like mushrooms?
User avatar #41 - robertolee (07/11/2013) [+] (1 reply)
Well actually it just causes the ant to carry on as it is but all for the benefit of the spore growing inside of it so the "Zombies" wouldn't actually be violent, they would just be docile, brainless fools.
