Honestly.. I don't see humanity ever possibly going extinct, they only way it would happen is if all life on Earth except for the smallest microbes also went extinct.
Otherwise.. we are just like rats.. we are EVERYWHERE, we can survive ANYWHERE, and we can adapt to almost ANYTHING.

I'm sorry to disagree with him, but they would know that we fared better because other things would remain but bones, a lot of technology, things in vaults deep in mountains, and in shelters; not all would be lost. Literature, remnants of electronics, tools.. And of course if we all die right now as you read this, then we didn't fare better than dinosaurs of foreseeing the extinction of humanity, but we came a damn lot closer.

I think it will really throw them for a loop when they find our bones next to dinosaur bones.

I'm sorry, but Neil DeGrasse Tyson simply isn't my favorite science spokesman. He's too cynical about humanity, and he's a bit too firm in his personal opinions. It's like he's talking down to everyone else. The title of best science spokesman is still being held by Carl Sagan. He was firm in his opinions, too, but he balanced it out with a positive, inspirational attitude.

being sentient doesn't grant you immunity from bad luck or self inflicted chaos.

well that's just ignorant, with the way the universe is, we can't stop any kind of cosmic disaster like a large meteor polluting the air, or the sun exploding, or black holes, or aliens etc. nothing can stop its final hour, because when you realize its time, its already too late to do anything. always.

It's because as a society, we can't just help being dicks to each other. You're chastised for showing proficiency in ghe sciences, and worshipped for your ability to play make believe in front of a camera. It's more important that we have devices that make us wealth or blow everyone else up than it is to have technology that can improve everyone's quality of life.
