Its not the globe spinning in the wrong direction.
To me it looks like the camera itself is zooming in and moving to the East...

no, the globe that opens up to reveal the globe in question is on a normal East to West rotation. What neil is referring to is the globe on the inside.

I used the spokes of the globe that opens up as a reference point, and taking your comment into consideration, conducted 'research'.

You'll notice right away that the camera does not move in an eastern direction, because the speed at which the spokes are rotating does not change.

The spokes could be GINORMOUS but billions of miles away so in perspective, the speed at which they rotate may not appear to change...

He did the same sort of thing with James Cameron, and the Titanic. At one scene, the night sky's stars are wrong, and where they were when that event happened, they wouldn't be able to see that particular set of stars.
He kept bugging James Cameron about that, and when James Cameron re-released it, apparently they changed the sky so it was historically correct.
