technically it's not "completely isolated" since there is heat and light coming in through the glass. Without that, the system will die. So it is in no way a self sustaining system.

There are not completely isolated systems anywhere. In theory, the only isolated system is the universe itself... therefore, your point is invalid,... i mean it's valid but so obvious that its statement is nothing but a waste of time.
