But wait, if it's 23 million miles closer to its 'sun' then would the temperature on that planet be significantly higher than the one on our planet? If so then regardless of whether it has breathable air, liquid water, or any other necessary object for survival it would be uninhabitable, right?

Not necissarily, as different stars are different masses, and the star it is orbiting is a much less intense star then the sun.
