the both parts of the slinky are moving towards the cernter of it. That means the down half is going up and the upper half down. So while the down part is accelerating in the upwards direction, gravity is pulling it down with an equal but opposite force, and the forces cancel each other out, holding it still.

Here's a picture if i'm shitty at explaining things.
Red = force of slinky
Green = gravity
If you know a little bit of physics, it should be clear.
