So if you're not screwing around, failing your classes and drinking during your college years but actually doing what you're paying thousands of dollars to do, you have a mental disorder.

I think back in the "old days", they didn't have OCDs or Aspergers or whatever it is people call it nowadats, they just had parents who were firm and reasonable, and children who learned how to deal with their **** .
#170 to #156 - dantewashere (01/31/2013) [-]
i have to agree to an extent. I think a lot of the blame belongs to the parents however you have to consider studies showing a link between certain television series and adhd as well as many other possible causes before blaming all the problems on one group of people.

OCD =/= obsessive personality

Just putting that out there.

Where everyone is ******* OCD.

I love when people think they have OCD, because something is out of order and they want to fix it.
Which is human nature, to want things fine.

It's a ******* shame that if you're like that, you must have a mental problem. It's called being a dedicated student.

So this is something I've been wondering for a while:

Would I be considered to have OCD (albeit a minimal form) if I always have to do certain things an even number of times? Like the amount of steps I have to take on sidewalk panels or the amount of times I chew with each side of my mouth?
User avatar #130 to #129 - bdevils (01/29/2013) [-]
you have traits but probably do not have OCD. I'm studying psychology in college

every morning after i wake up i prey for 2 minutes to a naruto cosplay ring i placed on top of my lucky guitar pick witch is in the middle of a mayenko sharingan circle i drew in a note book of mine.
i don't wear the ring in my sleep and i don't take it with me to any place i might damage it because i believe damaging it would cause incredible bad luck.
every time i leave i put the ring back in the circle and prey to it as it were a holy object and i put it on first thing when i get home.
my reason for this is because i accidently wore it to school once and i got a 92% correct on my final exam of 500 questions and got the highest score of all classes in 4 years.
another example is that one time while i was shooting my air gun in my yard i accidentally scratched it , i immediately took it off and put it safe inside , but because my friends were watching i didn't pray too it . not 10 seconds later i got shot in the finger i wore the ring and it took of my entire nail.
i genially believe this ring to be a holy object and i sincerely Pray to it every time i put it away after i touched it , the value of this ring is arguably the same as my own life and definitely more than my friend's (seeing as i broke someone's arm once for trying it on)
i am being 100%sincere about this and wonder how messed up i am ..any comments would be greatly appreciated

User avatar #124 to #115 - HOLYCARP (01/29/2013) [-]
TL;DR - Don't worry about it, everyone has special objects they like to keep around.

You cannot know that it isn't a coincidence, unless situations, like the two you have described, happen more often then not, then i would suppose it is a coincidence and nothing to go crazy about.

On that note, I have similar object of such a fancy as your Naruto ring. A necklace that i never take off, i don't particularly pray to it, but when good things happen, i attach the memories to this necklace so i don't forget.

Keep this ring forever.

#118 to #115 - FuckyouMrCrowley (01/29/2013) [-]
Sounds a little crazy my man....A ring has no bearing on a test that's all in your mind.
If you get shot in the same place twice with an airsoft gun then you were probably hitting the same target that caused ricochet
User avatar #122 to #118 - kanpai (01/29/2013) [-]
no my friend accendentaly shot it against my thumb , (wich is the finger i wear the ring on)
#123 to #122 - FuckyouMrCrowley (01/29/2013) [-]
why would a thumb ring have any power over where you accidentally get shot at
why would a thumb ring have any power over where you accidentally get shot at
#126 to #123 - kanpai (01/29/2013) [-]
because i damaged the ring and i got shot in the exact same finger not 10 secs later
#145 to #126 - anonymous (01/29/2013) [-]
So you got shot in the same place twice, by accident, but the second time the ring wasn'ty protecting your finger?
User avatar #164 to #145 - kanpai (01/29/2013) [-]
pretty much yeah
#172 to #164 - dantewashere (01/31/2013) [-]
but if you woulda kept it on it woulda blocked the bullet, thus saving your fingernail. sounds like you shoulda kept it on. now youll never have the same luck you once had with it. you already ruined it when you scratched it and took it off. and to think you coulda aced every single multiple choice question in the history of time but you went and ****** it up taking the ring off. what a shame

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is mainly characterised by having Obsessions, which are repetitive thoughts about the object of obsession and Compulsions, which are repetitive actions that the individual is compelled to do. What makes this a disorder is the Obsessions and Compulsions are based around largely unimportant things, i.e. having to organise everything on your desk to true north or turning a door handle n-times before opening it.

The medical student mentioned in the question could possibly have OCD as the information given is not really detailed enough for a proper diagnosis. However, based on this information alone, I would say the student doesn't have OCD and is simply a hard-working medical student who would prefer not to be working in McDonalds in five years. The student doesn't exhibit any obsessions or compulsions and shouldn't be considered paranoid: his colleagues may take notes in ways that he would find hard to understand or study from and having a fellow medical student as a girlfriend means he's a lucky bastard with at least one (assumed) reasonably attractive girl in his classes.
