As the sun is very small, as far as stars go, it cannot create a super nova when it "dies".

Even if it the expansion or explosion or whatever doesn't kill the earth, we'd still loose warmth and light..

The sun isn't even close to finishing its life cycle yet. When the sun expands to a Red Giant then it will engulf the Earth. Jupiter will become the new Mercury. Then it'll go to whatever stage is after that. It may or may not super nova but either way by the time it dies the Earth will be long gone.

thankfully, thats not going to happen for another 5 billion years or so. and by then, if we havent killed ourselves off with a zombie plague. then we will have colonated other planets by then
