i'm a programmer and the mathematician is pretty spot on
User avatar #88 to #7 - BigBallSack (11/25/2013) [-]
As a computer science major, I can confirm this as well.
I think I hear the word "trivial" far too much when dealing with discrete math.
User avatar #41 to #7 - racetothebottom (11/25/2013) [-]
yes, every faggot on funnyjunk who has taken an in-school joke of a programming class is automatically a programmer

no, you're a faggot wanna-be, please kill yourself
User avatar #81 to #41 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
i'm self taught.....i agree, you shouldn't take a class if you don't believe you need to.
i actually help with people's homework a lot because of how much they aren't getting in class. But anyway i think that you have good intentions but are just upset at the moment. and for that i forgive you
User avatar #92 to #81 - racetothebottom (11/25/2013) [-]
I could rant about this pretty hard, but I'm going try and narrow it down to:

as someone who does complex programming or who knows, I may just be some disillusioned faggot? it annoys the shit of out of me when people try and start some kind of "exclusive programmers' coalition" and/or try to appear complex/advanced with the utmost simple shit that literally anyone with an IQ over 12 could learn in under 1.4 minutes. Such as posts like "only programmers will get this" when the content is bullshit logic at a 3rd-grade level, or idiots posting shit like

if (leOPisFag && letreleleldicksSucked > 4) {
/* le OP is le xd111 dick sucker haha i am le cool programmer
thumb me up fellow programfags xd11
le xd java programming class le too cool */
}
i dont even java program, as I said this is simple 1.4-minute shit

owell, I ranted anyway
p.s. dicks

*Orwell.

naaah bro, i'm part of the c++ master race, i like java but it is too memory heavy for what i do
but either way, I totally get where you are coming from. With java but for a completely different reason, it bugs the shit out of me when someone that hasn't even finished their first week in a class thinks he knows more than me, and then comes back a week later asking me how he can print graphics to a screen using just java and has yet to even memorize a simple print out statement

User avatar #105 to #94 - racetothebottom (11/25/2013) [-]
i dont care for java either way, but it just seems to be the #1 elevated-ego programmer newfag language

i like working with a 3d environment, such as UDK (unrealscript, meh) / garry's mod (lua, my most practiced language), but most legit engines demand waaay too much of a share of any money made from games developed through them

ill prob start developing a legit game with some other people in the near future, starting with a crappy old laptop as a server and making a crappy client possibly in C++ and building that into a real game from there...

but at the moment all im doing is messing around with lua which i honestly dont see as being a shitty language for game-making... it's just... slow... on garry's mod (you prob know what that is), and a bit on roblox (the community is like 99% 8-year olds, i don't recommend checking it out).

the only reason im using that site/crappy "engine" is because a friend told me they offer money for game devs, and ive made a solid $100 -$20 because of paid membership... off of just having fun coding in lua...
User avatar #140 to #105 - sonicschall (11/25/2013) [-]
Roblox's community sucks ass, yes, but the game itself is fun
User avatar #67 to #66 - racetothebottom (11/25/2013) [-]
it's true
you faggots have unintentionally caused me butthurt with your faggotry

and that was supposed to be MY goal with this account idgaf anymore tho
User avatar #44 to #41 - thedrewtard (11/25/2013) [-]
As opposed to an out-of-school class?
User avatar #45 to #44 - racetothebottom (11/25/2013) [-]
it was a java class, wasn't it? you hyper-fag

you people piss me off beyond belief, none of you are programmers, just fuck off
User avatar #85 to #45 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
also i use a variety of different languages and they teach a variety in schools.....
User avatar #84 to #45 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
what is wrong with java?
are you a programmer?
User avatar #96 to #84 - thedrewtard (11/25/2013) [-]
Some people don't like Java because it's high-level and sacrifices some power to be easier to learn. It's usually one of the first ones taught, so what he was trying to say is that if you've only taken a Java class you're not really a programmer, which is a valid opinion, but in this case, I wasn't trying to say I was a programmer, I was pointing out something funny about his comment...

tl;dr Some people don't like Java because of reasons
User avatar #97 to #96 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
i agree that java is like a gateway drug, once you learn it, everything is just plain easy.
however i have never met anyone that doesn't like java, it isn't the best but it is definitely worth learning.
i personally don't like action script but i don't judge people who choose to use it
User avatar #98 to #97 - thedrewtard (11/25/2013) [-]
Yeah dude, I know a bunch of people who hate on Java for being easy but I love it. It's the first thing I learned and it's always what I've been most comfortable with.
User avatar #100 to #98 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
i'm personally more comfortable with c++, also i don't really think any programming language is hard once you learn the first.
it might just be that i was bilingual first, but to me it really is just learning another language. After that it is nothing but logic control which is also easy if you use a visual aid
User avatar #99 to #98 - thedrewtard (11/25/2013) [-]
I'm not saying it's the best by any means but it's definitely useful.
User avatar #46 to #45 - thedrewtard (11/25/2013) [-]
Dude I never even said I was a programmer.
#51 to #46 - anonymous (11/25/2013) [-]
don't give him negative thumbs! He doesn't deserve the satisfaction.
User avatar #54 to #51 - racetothebottom (11/25/2013) [-]
then thumb me up, I'm half-assedly trying to get back to the positive levels anyway

It's just that on this account I honestly don't give half a fuck about voicing an unpopular opinion because thumbs don't mean shit to me, unlike half these legit users living in fear of red thumbs

programmer =! mathematician

sorry i just had to
User avatar #83 to #40 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
yes, but i do use math and logic to achieve everything i do
User avatar #91 to #83 - pseudobob **User deleted account** (11/25/2013) [-]
using numbers and maths in your line of work does not make you a mathematician

i understand what you meant, programming is close to math, I just had to say it
User avatar #93 to #91 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
programming is math. Math is actually for the most part everything we do. I don't claim to be a mathematician because there is a lot of work put into getting that title, however i will not belittle the amount you have to use in programming. Make no mistake, i do a lot of the stuff a mathematician would do, i just don't feel like getting the degree
#102 to #93 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
Language is language. Math is math. Violets are blue.
User avatar #104 to #102 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
ignorance is ignorance
#106 to #104 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
That's elementary. But seriously, when you say "Math is actually for the most part everything we do", you're saying that programmers do it, not humanity in general, right?
User avatar #107 to #106 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
no, i'm saying whether or not we would like to admit it, we all inherently use math to accomplish the majority if not everything we do (whether admit it or not)
#108 to #107 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
You are absolutely right. But without language (most complex form of communication), no math.
User avatar #109 to #108 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
are you sure? because we use math to achieve that too
now, it is not a conscious process but math can be found in everything
#110 to #109 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
Well, math and language are both extremely important. But think of what must have come first in human history. And do you really think you use math more so than you do language?
User avatar #111 to #110 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
on a day to day basis? absolutely
(but also understand i still struggle with social anxiety) that is why i lurk the internet in the first place
and i'm not trying to belittle language, i believe they both go hand in hand
math would be very hard to use in a social way, just as it would be very hard to socialize without using some form of math while doing it
but i also recognize i am a biased person in this discussion because i spend so much time in my own head where math reigns, so naturally i see everything mathematically
#113 to #111 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
In spite of your bias, I think you're right. I'm sad to hear about that social anxiety, but, as you certainly know already, some people are just not made for certain things.

I love math too as I am a classically trained musician. If you love math and patterns, do me and yourself a favor and listen to some Bach's contrapunctal works. Especially, his fugues from the Art of Fugue and the Well-Tempered Clavier.
User avatar #116 to #113 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
it's not as bad after growing up a bit, I still get that feeling like someone is sitting on me and end up speaking hastily but it's easy to laugh about it later especially with people it is easier to talk to.

i love classical music, especially the piano, thank you i will

also i think there is truth to be found in both sides of this, you have taught me a little bit more about thinking in another perspective
#117 to #116 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
How old are you, if you don't mind?
User avatar #118 to #117 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
20
how about you?
#119 to #118 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
Nineteen. Will be twenty in two months and one fourth.
User avatar #112 to #111 - crycamellia (11/25/2013) [-]
oops meant to say math would be hard to use in a social way without using language to assist you in conveying the meanings
#114 to #112 - pkrbarmoviea (11/25/2013) [-]
Ha ha. Of course, I understood.
