It's actually pretty cool once you realize it. It must be tracking the movement of the tendons in your wrist and extrapolating your finger's movement based on the distance each tendon moves. That's some scientific **** right there.

Not really. Very few of the muscles that control your finger's flexing are in your hands. Most of them are in your forearm.
