That card is borderline broken. A 2/3 flying for 3 is already pretty good. Add in the fact that he has lifelink and he should cost at least 4 mana given that Seraph of dawn has that as a 2/4 and costs 4 mana. Now add in the fact that he has deathtouch and you're looking at a card that should cost at least 5. That being said I have like 9 of them and run a full set in two different decks and one in my EDH deck.

I run him as my commander but I just started playing EDH so my deck is ok. What's plague of vermin do?

Side note: I was playing an EDH game against this guy at my local shop he had Kalia as his commander and had her out, and like four other big ass creatures that would have killed me next turn. My general was killed two turns before and I let him go to the graveyard with a diabolic tutor in hand. I tutored for living death. Dropped living death which brought back my commander and like 5 other creatures to sacrifice for him. He was playing reanimate so he didn't have creatures to bring back since he already did that. All shit was gone, I sacrificed all my other creatures for my general. Swung for lethal with commander damage.

TL;DR This guy came in with a clutch win for me in game 2 of my first EDH match.

here ya go mate. spawn, say, 20 or 30 rats depending on the situation. Sac enough to vish to wipe the board of anything you want, then swing lethal with the rest. sure, they get rats too, but you have so much more use for them than they do.

Do people actually fall for that trap though? I mean it's a great combo, but do other people also pay life or do they see whats happening and just stop the effect once it gets to them?

they will usually spawn around 10 from my test runs in cockatrice. It honestly doesnt matter if they do or not though, youll still kill them with your commander that turn reguardless.
