This almost destroyed the very core of my beliefs, in turn destroying my entire personality. I managed to save it though through some thought and ultimately common sense. Let me explain. With every 9 added after the decimal, you are decreasing the error by a factor of 10. Now, as long as you add a finite amount of 9's this means that its just plain wrong, 1 simply cannot equal a number less than 1. However, you can make .9999+ become 1, but only by adding exactly an infinite number of 9's. By doing so you decrease the error by by an infinite amount, leaving the error at 0%.
