First World War: Part 2 of 3

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
On the 28th of June 1914, a Bosnian-Serb assasinated the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne in Sarajevo. The story behind that assassination is worthy a compilation on its own, what it sparked is what we are interested.
Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, who were allied to Russia, who declared war on Austria-Hungary, who was allied with Germany, who declared war on Russia, who was allied with France so Germany declared war on them too, invaded France through Belgium prompting The British Empire to declare war on Germany. Japan sent Germany an ultimatum which Germany ignored prompting Japan to also declare was on Germany. Later Bulgaria and Turkey joined on the Austro-Hungarian/German Side (Central powers) and many other countries joined the Serbian/Russian/French/British side (The Entente) such as Romania, Italy, Arab rebels, United States of America, Portugal and many others.

This is a comp about the ten battles with the highest rate of casualties (KIA, WIA or MIA) total.

Here is the statistics these comps are based on, if you want info on a battle and it isn't in the comp, it will most likely be there.

For some reason you already have mentioned "the battle of vittorio veneto", "Operation michael" and "the great retreat" in the first compilation.
Aside of that, keep up the good work!

don't you mean july in your second sentence? It says june. i mean if this is the hundredth year anniversary, one would think that the date would be exact, not a month before.
