For the reccord, I agree with you OP. Literally the only reason "assault weapons" have a bad rep is becuse they look like machine guns and have the option of large capacity clips.

I can see why people are scared of ARs. I mean, it does look powerful and scary when in reality it shoots a low caliber bullet. .223s are basically the 9mm of rifles. Plus, they do have large clips, and I can understand why people don't like that. But if you're shooting for just enjoyment or competition shooting, you want an AR so you can shoot as much as you want without worrying about melting the barrel.

This is the only argument that pro-gun people use that I don't fully agree with. The whole "If someone wants to get a gun, they will." While that is true, you don't think like that in your daily life. For example, you wouldn't leave your front door unlocked because "If someone wants to break in, they're going to do it even if I have the door locked.
Exactly. The ban is literally just going to limit responsible people from using firearms.
Don't get me wrong, I have only ever fired a weapon once with the army cadets (I live in GB) so I don't really have experience with this but I fully understand the ban that's proposed for you guys in the US. It's stupid and if I could help you oppose it then I would.

And that's the same as a baseball bat, for example. When in the right hands, it's used for sports. When not, it can also cause a lot of damage.
But the thing is, I think if you showed an anti-gun supporter an AR with only a five bullet clip and also showed them a typical .223 and asked which one is more dangerous, they'll say the AR even though they're the exact same gun with cosmetic differences.
