Back in the day, there weren't so many mass shootings by civilians to cause any other thought. They wrote this when they were dealing with invasion.

They wrote it because they saw what a tyrannical government could do and wanted to ensure American citizens had the capability to defend their rights in case the US government ever became tyrannical.

People seem to forget that the elastic clause broadens that definition.

But one angry redneck is not a militia.

mfw its means the same thing we pro-gun americans are saying, It says the people are allowed to have guns to make sure we have a free country. The people need guns to protect themselves from a foreign power(unlikely) like in red dawn or from the sate itself. LEARN THE DAMN FACTS.

I love my second amendment right. for 2 reasons: I like knowing that i can arm myself against those that could hurt myself or others, and by owning weapons responsibly i can show that you dont need to ban them. people can be responsible enough to take care of them and not hurt anyone. Even if I am just one person.

Poster you are dumb. In a militia the guns are those that the militia men personally own, it does not give us the right to own guns in order to participate in a militia, but to own our own guns because we need our own guns so if we ever need to we may form a militia.

Our nation was based on the idea of a social contract. That means that , in order for the whole of societies peace of mind and safety, we all agree to give up some personal liberties. In the case of guns, we give up weapons designed to kill others in mass for the collective good. You don't need a gun to stop criminals, that's what law enforcement is for. If you truly believe that you need a high powered weapon capable of slaughter to defend your self in case your government turns tyrannical, you might as well have already lost,

I have read your entire thread, good sir. And I have taken all you have to say into consideration, but allow me to provide this.
Once there is no danger left for me to have to defend myself from, once every human being on earth stops arguing, being angry, yelling, and no one knows how to be mean and all we can do as a human race is agree and love one another in one big happy love fest of sharing I will keep my guns to shoot and kill any mother ****** who dares threaten my loved ones. I am not violent in the sense of an antagonist, I will never harm a single human, unless I have to. I am loving and accepting of everyone, but you tell me how I'm going to react when someone is holding a weapon to my child or wife? I'm gonna shoot that ****** . In the face. Twice. I'm not going to call the police, and wait 40 minutes for them to show up, and take a report, just to "Keep an eye out" for the guy, and waste tax dollars just to maybe find him. I'm going to defend myself. Not from the government, but from random bastards on the street who are looking for someone to victimize. The police aren't everywhere, and they can't teleport to where crime happens, they are a reactive force, not a protective one.
tl;dr I'm keeping my guns.

The constitution is massively outdated
User avatar #14 to #3 - opieman (01/19/2013) [-]
Comparativly, the US constituion is awesome. Mexico's constitution was written less than a hundred years ago, and they still haven't implemented all of the articles. true, this might be because there are 130 articles, instead of a nice simple 27.
User avatar #155 - saddestofbreads (01/20/2013) [+] (36 replies)
This was written a few hundred years ago, when people carried muskets not Sub-machine guns or semi-automatic rifles. Times change and so should the laws/constitution. Also carrying a sword is also bearing arms so no, the constitution does not say you have the right to have guns.

Armed militias being necessary to the security of a free state? Oh, where have I seen this before?

Oh, that's right - Nazy Germany and Fascist Italy, Portugal and Spain.

Actually Hitler was an advocate of gun control, he didn't take away all private arms as many people believe though, the people already loved him so to do so would have been a waste of time, money and resources. What he did do was take all guns away from the Jews, it's pretty obvious why.
#277 - haziri (01/20/2013) [+] (1 reply)
Has anybody read even read the third-and-a-half amendment? It says "Anything in this constitution may be taken away at anytime, so long as the government deems it no longer valid." I'm all for assholes not having the first, but taking away the second won't actually solve anything.

When this nation was formed, people had guns that needed to be reloaded after every shot, just like the military did.

Today, we have guns that need to be reloaded after you use up a clip, just like the military does.

Nothing has changed.

>Guy fires round, kills someone
>Dude has bayonet on his gun
>Need to shoot him to avoid getting stabbed

2000
>Guy fires rounds, kills some people
>Dude has lots of rounds of ammunition
>Need to shoot him to avoid getting shot

Not saying guns are good or bad, just saying having a gun for protection is a pretty nice thing. I think the mental health of the people that shoot up schools should be a concern equal to not greater of guns.

well given that the amendments can also be amended....such in the case of prohibition amendment which was later ended by another amendment, the right to bear arms can also be amended by congress....
User avatar #168 to #160 - thegamerslife ONLINE (01/20/2013) [-]
but I think that one would have some greater ramification to being taken away. someone this last month proposed removing the 22nd amendment too. ******* retards.
