I buy a bag of these and melt them in the microwave (without the wrapper) and then just dip cut apple slices in the caramel. Then I eat the apple while the caramel is still warm. I think it tastes good. Also, I wouldn't use a melon baller like the picture shows because it takes away so much of the apple.

Wait, what? "Takes away so much of the apple"? Isn't that the point? The apple is just a vessel for the caramel. You want as little of the poisonous apple as possible.

You're supposed to dip the "apple balls" in caramel and have mini caramel covered apples without a core. One of my mom's friends did this at a party a long time ago and it was amazing.

Could drop some of the balls back in while the caramel is warm. And this is now the way I am going to try it. These caramels are awesome.

Fun party idea:
Make these out of green apples, and then make a bunch more out of green bell peppers. Place next to each other on a plate. Tell no one.

I actually made these. You can't really omit any of the ingredients because the caramel taste is from the Butterscotch Schnapps. You may be able to replace it with some other caramel flavored liquid, but just use the alcohol. It tastes amazing. Also, when carving the apple "cups", make sure you get a small bowl and squeeze some lemons. Use the lemon juice by dipping your finger in it and coating the pulp of the apple. That way when you put them in the fridge for a couple hours they won't brown.

Yeah that link seems to be the correct recipe. Some very important things to remember is that you must let the pan cool off before pouring the alcohol, otherwise it kills it. Also, the food color isn't necessary, but it does provide a very pretty caramel color.

Never made these, but I assume that after you pour the caramel in you just put the apples in the fridge to harden the caramel then slice them...
