A diver has a very personal moment of
dejection at the bottom of the pool during
the 2012 CACA Swimming and Diving State
Championships at East Los Angeles College
Swim Stadium on Thursday, April 26, 2012
in Monterey Park, CA. (Photo by Suzanne
Calander © 2012) This particular photo
represents an emotional moment rarely
caught underwater. This particular diver
was expected to win the entire event. The
diver knew as soon as he hit the water his
form was flawed and that he might have
just lost it all. I was fortunate enough to
witness this moment as it was unfolding
underwater. I captured the sequence of
emotion just a split second after he hit the
water and began to sink to the bottom
with a sense of defeat written in his body
language This was the image I chose from
the series. I have felt this emotion and
disappointment before as many athletes
do. My chance to capture it underwater
was rare but beautiful. It is a moment no
competitive athlete wants to relive but
something important that many of us can
relate to. It is raw and human and real.

so you quit as soon as you hit the water?
Why even bother jumping?

It's diving. The jump, hitting the water and the entry altogether is everything that matters.

I read a similar story recently, it was about an archery or shooting competition a few years back, where a team from Kazakhstan won. The look of defeat in their eyes as the national anthem from Borat accidentally played through the speakers really relates to this picture..

That's just silly...he hit the water wrong, so he got it in his head he was going to lose it all? You know what an even bigger garuntee of that is? SINKING TO THE BOTTOM THE SECOND YOU GET IN! Had he kept swimming, he could have had a chance. Maybe the other racers would fuck up down the pool. Maybe the stress if having started out wrong would have allowed his to perform more than well enough to win.

We'll never know because he didn't even try. He hit one pitstop and GAVE UP...You lot can get mad and thumb me down all you want to try and preserve the "heartwrentching story of human emotion!" it won't change the truth about the situation.

You mean that they're probably getting money for diving into water ?

That makes me sad.

They're getting money for devoting endless hours every day training to have a chance to compete at a level that actually pays off.

This reminds me the other week. I had my driving test and it was the only time i could take it before going back to uni. If I failed it meant that I wouldn't be able to retake the test for another 3 years as well as having to redo my theory.

I didn't even set off when the woman told me I failed.
I cried like a little bitch for hours.

£100 is a fucking lot for me. I hate having to 'gamble' that amount of money on a drivers license.
