One of my classmates lost control of his skateboard and was hit by a semi truck just a few hours before graduation last year. They called his name and his best friend walked up with the skateboard that he had been riding and placed it on the stage. The friend took Forest's diploma to his family, and the rest of our graduating class laid flowers on his board. It was a really bittersweet graduation night.
