It's this kind of crap that drives me crazy. No, I'm not going to go and tell her to diet and exercise because she's fat and whatever. I've seen a lot more fatty met at cons then women, and honestly I don't give a flying f*ck about it. I don't judge you on your looks, no one should.

HOWEVER. If your body type doesn't fit the character you want to dress as, then don't dress as that character! Or alter the costume to flatter your body type better! Hell, Wonder Woman didn't just have ONE costume, there were plenty that involved long draping fabrics that wouldn't exaggerate your belly like this bathing suit version does. (THIS GOES FOR MEN TOO)

GOD.

In all honesty it never looks good to cosplay outside of your body type, regardless of gender.

This is just as bad.

This comic isn't only about the overweight woman, it's about the attractive woman wearing the wonder woman suit as well. She only played a minor role but it shows that by the crowd calling her a whore, slut, and asking if she even read the comic, that women are looked down on regardless of how they look in certain genres of life, in this case the fandom of comics.

I'd make just as much fun of a fat dude who tries to dress up as a particularly muscly or athletic character, because I'm an equal opportunity asshole.

Just to let the non-convention attenders in on a thought, part of this isn't just her being sad about her weight compared to wonder woman (she obviously sucked it up and went in the costume) it's the fact that she was harassed by nerds. NERDS. Her fellow people. I've been to conventions for years and there's always girls like this, i've looked away and wondered WHY WOULD YOU BOTHER WEARING THAT? Now I understand a bit more.

What caught me was the "I could meet other fans, this could be fun"
THAT is the idea of going to those things. Being surrounded by nerds and fans as crazy about it as you. Understanding, acceptance, etc. It's a shame that even at a gathering of lonely and self confidence lacking virgins and weirdos people are still judged on appearance; but it's true.

You're just a cunt.
This sums up half the male nerds.

Everyone is talking about how she's being treated because of her weight. It's not about that. It's that both women were being shunned or harassed by members of their own fandom. We've all seen heavy dudes get grief for cosplaying as a thinner character, but when's the last time you've seen a guy with a cosplay that was pretty much dead on accused of not being a real fan? It's not about the REASONS they're turning the women away, it's that they ARE turning the women away.

MAN THE--feels.

But it's the same **** with men. We're supposed to be tall, mega buff, crafted by the hands of angels, have gorgeous hair, and glowing eyes.

I've seen women lust over the most perfect of the male group, accepting anything lower than that as beneath them. I'm not bad looking myself, and while slightly above average looks are nice it's not like I've never felt envy.

Frankly I'm a dedicated cosplayer. If I ever do I want to become the character.

At any rate. You can lose weight, and even though I'm practically a skeleton I'm sure I could build muscle.

But the real lesson here, is that you should be happy with yourself.

I just realized the woman who fit the costume was also harassed.

What the **** man I'm running out of insight.

I feel like when a fat guy dresses like batman or any other fit character he can laugh it off and comfortably refer to himself as Fatman, but anytime you judge women's weight they go and make a comic like this one.
#229 - I Am Monkey (05/02/2013) [-]
All men in comics are completely unrealistic expectations of what men should look like. You don't see us getting all emo about it. I neither expect nor want any super hero to look like my out of shape self.

Implying only fatass women get laughed at because they are too lazy to get into shape.

90% of the people who are the harshest on this site are just as fat/stupid/ugly/etc as the people they judge. It's easy being a tough ass when you're hiding behind a computer screen. Red thumbs, here I comes.

lol wtf. This is pathetic.
As many have said before, male superheroes have body images that are just as unattainable. That's what makes comics amusing, because they exaggerate reality and let us live out our dreams as physical and intellectual superhumans.

If you are unable to accept that, if you feel that you need to earn the adoration of anyone else by embodying an unattainable figure, that is your own fault.
No one asks you to look like a supermodel. Yes, these are the standards by which physical attractiveness is based, but it is your choice to hold yourself to those standards. If you're not physically attractive, accept it. Find some other means of self-worth; don't cry and blubber about it.
