A party is whatever you make it out to be. I have made some great friends at parties. Alcohol is simply a social tool, it gets you talking. Try to be more open minded; sure, I love to kick it with a close friend sometimes, hang out and talk about things, but parties are for being in a socially open environment where meeting new people is encouraged. You can have your priorities straight and still have fun at and enjoy the occasional party, dude. Having fun is what it's all about.

But that's exactly what I do at parties, I talk to people. I can usually have more interesting conversations because when people drink they are much less reserved and few limitations about what they share. It's a doorway for shy people to interact and get to know more people in my opinion

Thats a common misconception in my experiance anyway, as that has never been the case at a party i've been at.
The night consists of socialising with others, meeting new people and making friends. Drinking just boosts your social skills. And even if you do drink a bit much and get wasted, it's something to experiance.

That's why I prefer small parties, with small groups of friends that I can get drunk and have a lot of fun with. Forced to socialise with a houseful of people I don't know? No thanks.

Makes more sense then anything I could have said. I prefer playing board games or tabletop RPGs, since a person's play style says a lot about them, especially in more roleplay oriented games. You don't need to be a psychologist to see why someone makes a tough as nails werewolf or a scared, innocent changeling.

I keep on reading it as "rubbing yourself with alcohol". But none the less, I relate completely.

This is precisely how I feel. For me, the best of times is whenever I'm with people I care about, just enjoying them for who they are.

I have anxiety, and I avoid parties because they tend to rustle my man-jimmies. I can't converse greatly with people, I have noticed, because it too seems to make me panic a little, but I still love to talk with people.

Also, I hate people (even if you have a disorder or are shy) that look down at people at parties. If you don't like them, fine, but going to them doesn't make you an idiot or less intelligent; it just means they like the company of more people, while you don't. I think it may partly be envy of some sort.

I can not be in a large social gathering without alcohol in me. I have found this out time and time again. I am in a Fraternity for fuck sakes.
Once that alcohol is in my I can have an awesome time and be the life of the party when I want to be.
