Selective breeding is the act of choosing people (in this case) who have desirable traits to propagate the human race and preventing those with undesirable traits from reproducing. I'm not sure what you mean its uses in different societies but it can be used to make humans that are genetically perfect for certain roles that are chosen before their birth. I can't name any leaders who supported Eugenics but I know it has been practiced in Japan, Russia and China to prevent genetic disorders and mental retardation.

Eugenics influenced many political leaders who incited genocides. Hitler was inspired by Eugenics, hence his future outlook towards the Aryan Race. You do realize Eugenics has nothing to do with race right? Any leader that commits genocide in the name of eugenics is only using it as a facade to hide their racism. Hitler didn't kill the Jewish people to better humanity (though he claimed this) he killed them because they have been history's scapegoat for centuries, he needed a common enemy for the German people. Eugenics doesn't need people to be killed to achieve its goal, which is to better the Human race physically and mentally; not to ensure the dominance of a single flawed race but to help the Human Race reach near perfection. It is a means of speeding up and controlling evolution. It is basically the same as breeding animals for desired traits but since we can't force people who have good genes to have sex we remove the reproductive capabilities from those with bad genes. You have the small-minded view that eugenics is bad and has to do with killing people who are different. Go read a book.

I studied Eugenics for six months in college. Eugenics was partially focused on different forms of euthanasia in order to cleanse the human race. Eugenics was VERY focused on the HUMAN race. Hitler WAS in fact inspired by Eugenics, hence his ideology of the Aryan race. Was Eugenics an excuse for him? Probably. But they influenced him enough to want to create the perfect race. Eugenics believed that retarded children should be smothered at birth and that anybody who had 3 or more instances of defected births should be castrated. And this is the banner you choose to wave my friend? I apologize for the name calling in my last post, I'm having a bad day and wrongfully take it out on you. Regardless of how this debate turns out, I do enjoy having an intelligent conversation with somebody else.

I appreciate the apology but what you fail to realize is that Hitler claimed that his slaughter of millions of people was for the "greater good" of humanity this wasn't his true intention. In order for Hitler to rule he needed the support of the German people and to do this he chose to demonize the Jews ,who were already outcasts in the christian society of Germany. This isn't the true spirit of Eugenics, and in regards to the smothering of children at birth that isn't necessary, all that needs to be done is to have genetic screenings for genetic disorders and other undesirable traits like reduced cognitive ability BEFORE a couple is permitted to have children and if these genetic markers are found their request would be denied and if they had a child anyway then sterilization would be necessary. The term Eugenics was coined by Francis Galton (half cousin of Charles Darwin) who thought that if the concept of the selective breeding of animals was applied to humans it could help quickly shape the human race into something better. I'm not sure if you are aware Hitler's brand of eugenics comes from Charles Benedict Davenport who was a complete racist which made him the perfect source for Hitler to draw information from when manipulating the masses
