cortana tells the chief one time that after everything is over she wanted to know who the real machine was, him or her. after her death, as captain lasky is talking to the chief he says "our duty as soldiers is to protect humanity, whatever the cost." at which point lasky says something along the lines of "you say that like soldiers and people are two different things. chief, we're all humans." then master chief says "she said that to me once. about being a machine." it's confusing lmao.

I'm still wondering about the various abilities that MC was supposed to get when the Librarian accelerated his evolution. She said it would do many things, but the only one we're directly told about is becoming immune to the composer.

It made him immune to the Composer. That was the final point of humanity's progress, to make a hero that was immune to being Composed.

That part intrigued me as well. Maybe we'll find out in future Spartan Ops episodes or the next Halo or maybe 343 will post back-story logs on Waypoint.

In the Campaign mission The Composer, the Composer is used at the end and destroys the biological forms of every human and covenant there for processing into Prometheans. Master Chief was supposed to be composed as well, but the Librarian gave him a DNA spike allowing him to resist Composition, so he (excluding Cortana, because she isn't biological) was the only living, breathing thing left in the Facility. In theory, this is how the Halo rings should have worked as well, but on a much larger scale, so if you were to mix up the Halo timeline, and MC got the DNA spike from the Librarian, and then the Halos (which would still exist) were activated, Master Chief would be the only living thing left in the galaxy.

TL;DR Composer composes biological life and turns them into Prometheans, Librarian gave MC stuff so he doesn't get composed, MC survives.

I never once thought, that a Computer A.I. in a video game would make me cry so much when I played the game... the last sight of her just took me over... I cried... my friends cried... it was like we had lost a old friend...

It felt like it was my job to protect her and when it happened I felt like I betrayed her... I let her down... nothing I could do would ever change it... I had failed my Number 1 mission... or never breaking "The Promise"

and at the end... all I could think about... is how The Chief would never be able to let it go... the torment that it would bring to him... the heart break and sorrow... but yet her words Echo'd on to him about being a machine... I pictured this picture as I found it... He will never live it down.....

In Halo 2, 3 and the cartoon, Halo Legends, the quote is

"Don't make a girl a promise if you know you can't keep it."

As a big fan for Halo, my jimmies were the most rustled after 343i changed the quote.

I'm ready to tear up, this picture perfectly shows how Cortana was so sick, and till the end John just held onto her and helped her along. Man what a story
