It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80′s arrived at the hospital to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. The nurse took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor’s appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife. I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer’s Disease. As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now. I was surprised, and asked him, ‘And you still go every morning, even though she doesn’t know who you are?’ He smiled as he patted my hand and said, ‘She doesn’t know me, but I still know who she is.’

my parents kept me from seeing my dying grandfather because they thought it would be best if i remembered him the way he was. I'm glad they did because he apparently didn't remember who i was. and on the night the doctors were sure he would die within hours he kept up other patients with his snoring, that was the last time i laughed at something he did.

Sometimes I think funnyjunk is full of over sentimental people and then I realise they just want to use their feels reaction pics.

My grandma had Alzheimer and every time I saw her she'd say "how old are you?" and every time I'd answer "10", "11", "12" as the years went. She'd then reply with, "I can't wait to see you as a doctor, or lawyer." She loved me, and every time she saw me she'd give me a dollar cause that's all she had. Then, the questions stopped, then her heart.

Growing up, I spent a lot of time in my best friends grandparents house. They were like a third set of grandparents to me. Even growing up I would often call into their house and listen to his grandmother's stories for hours on end.

Anyway last year her health started deteriorating. She didn't have alzheimer's but she didn't seem to remember a lot of things or people that she should have. One day she was brought to hospital. We were told that she would probably pass on any day soon. She was in a hospital a two hour drive from where I live. I wanted to visit her but I was afraid she wouldn't remember who I was so I didn't.

Her family visited her everyday including all of her grandchildren. But one day she asked my friends mother why her other grandson hadn't visited her at all. My friends mam asked which grandson she was talking about. She said Robbie (me).

I heard this and decided that I would visit her straight away when I had a day off from work but she passed away three days later before I could see her. The fact that she not only remembered who I was but thought I was one of her grandsons means so much to me. I just wished I could have said goodbye to her before she passed on.

I was the only person my grandmother could remember without having to tell her, that was nice.
