I know someone who was at some 4th of July thing and he started tearing up (not crying) when there was a quick succession of fireworks near the end (it somewhat sounded like gunfire).

Someone asked him why... and he responded with how it reminded him of his time in service and he said nothing else.

But I knew the real reason (he told me months prior)... he was seeing the memory of when he lost his best friend in a firefight. He looked sad the rest of the night...and no one knew why.

Then there's the asshole who decided to take a picture of someone struggling instead of helping them.

I watched a little boy die at a gun range in Massachusetts when I was 14. He wasn't being supervised properly and shot himself in head by accident.
I still can't sit through a full fireworks show.

This is the stuff videogames don't show. It's what gives games Like Call Of Duty a bad name. This is true with action war movies too. They make war look fun.

Movies have tried harder to explain what PTSD would be like for a soldier in war lately. The problem is that we're only watching someone else. Videogames, I think, do have the ability to show us what real trauma on the human mind can do in war. We just need to pull away from the run-and-gun of the current shooting games, and look for something more artistic.

My step-dad has PTSD and gets night terrors all the time. Used to scare the **** out of me growing up, because they'd get so intense, the noise would wake me up through two closed doors and the length of the hallway. He'd scream about killing people for hours without waking up - rough stuff, man. :(

Women only just recently became able to fill infantry roles. But women have been in wars and firefights because of the various jobs that need to be done in country.

oh please soldiers of today have luxury, they go halfway around the world and do jack **** and think they'e saving the world, they're the last people to be stressed, the only people that can possible get PTSD are vietnam and ww2 veterans, cause they've actually seen **** , they are the manliest men around, not like this modern gayfare pussy war going on for oil

Yes, this war may be stupid as **** and not worth fighting (in the opinion of some), but that doesn't change the face that convoys still get bombed, men still step on landmines and our soldiers are still having to kill people.

You can't possibly relate to men who have been overseas. Have you ever killed anyone? Have you ever held a dying buddy in your arms, trying to convince him his legs are fine, when really they've been blown to bits? Have you ever been talking to a good friend, only to have a bullet go through his head mid-sentence as his blood splatters onto your face? No? My dad has. So you shut the **** up.

It takes a man ten times manlier than you will ever be to take up arms and protect his home, his family, and his freedom. And even if the people in power have decided to send all our men and women off on some stupid crusade for some oil, that doesn't change the unspeakable things some of them have to go through.

Try having the camp 3 clicks East of yours bombed with no survivors, and then having nightmares about people's severed body parts turning up under your bunk, like my mom. Then you can talk to me about what luxury our soldiers have, and why they shouldn't be complaining about PTSD.

Oh look, a female soldier. It must of been frighetning for her going nowhere near the F.L.E.T. Sat inside the wire on comms, or driving in safe areas. Somebody get this lady a drink.

I've known plenty of MEN with PTSD, none of them did this at a fireworks display - this is attention seeking, and it's insulting to men who have taken overdoses and jumped off of bridges. All of you can downvote this and say what you like - but none of you faggots know what you are talking about do you?

Former 2PARA c coy rifleman.

Attention seeking? There are plenty of men who have PTSD that react to things that are seemingly unrelated to their situation. Just because she's female, does not mean this is "attention-seeking". Have YOU ever experienced constant explosions and the sounds of gunfire? Or maybe lost a friend to that **** ? If you have, I'm very sorry, and I hope you're okay. But, odds are, you have not. The men you've known who have PTSD who have tried to kill themselves is part of something different. I'm assuming this woman is not suicidal. However, PTSD includes being prone to flashbacks, but not necessarily wanting to end their lives. She's quite a strong person for still being there. Judging people based on their sex and reactions to traumatizing events is completely idiotic, and the fact that you are hiding behind Anon proves that you know that.

TL;DR: Anon is a pussy bitch.

You know I often wondered how did soldiers of the ancient and medieval world cope with PTSD. I mean today you have therapy, drugs and whatnot, not that it helps all too much but still better than nothing. Wars were just as terrible in those days as they are now (if not worse). Just imagine being a roman soldier on the frontline during the carthaginian wars facing a unit of war elephants. Those huge beasts trampling everything in sight and impaling your brothers in arms on their tusks, blood and death everywhere... I just wonder how did they cope with it afterwards? Were they just more sturdy than the soldiers today so they didn't have such big problems, or was it just something nobody talked about in those days? Gif related

I'm grateful and respect them for going and fighting and protecting our freedom, but I don't feel bad for them in cases like this. They knew exactly what they were getting into and the risks they were taking, whether they died or not they would be making a sacrifice one way or another.
They deserve respect, not sympathy.

They knew they may be traumatized, and possibly killed, and yet they fight for your freedom. Rather +1 respect
