We were on route clearance in Afghanistan.
A lot of us got paired with a bomb dog.
After our deployment was up we were going home and all the handlers got really attatched to their dogs. We had just been though a rough deployment and lost a lot of our friends. The dogs were always a source of comfort for us. We got really attatched to them.
And when we were done, we found out the dogs werent coming back with us. One of my Marines actually tried to beat the **** out of one the Army handlers who was trying to take his dog. We held him back.
I never saw so many grown ass man, combat veterans, cry like we did.

You'd almost forget that marines are humans too.

When you get to my age, you almost inevitably know at least a few marines, which makes them feel more human than any post on FJ. We had a family friend die on bomb squad in Afghanistan; it really changes your perspective.

I don't know what I said wrong but thats what I meant, soldiers have feelings and are different than the stereotypical killing machines.
My english isn't that great, and that ***** me over when I try to form proper sentences. sorry for that.

There's a show on animal planet about combat dogs where they basically just give the soldiers cameras. There was one where a group was out on patrol, and a bomb went off. One of the soldier's dogs died in the blast, and it was given a full burial. While being interviewed, the dog's handler broke down and sobbed, it was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen
