In Afghanistan, the main priority of the Canadian forces was to secure Independence for the Afghan people. We do this in combating the Taliban, and when you secure sectors of Taliban control, then you can provide freedom. Thanks to Coalition soldiers in Afghanistan, children are now back to school, woman have the right to vote and we are in the beginning stages of re-establishing government to a hostile region. So the next time a uneducated piece of shit like you comments on a post that isn't mine with your uneducated "Educated" opinion hoping that I wont see it because no red arrow appears on my screen, think again.

We are fighting for the freedom of security of our own nations people.

As an American Jew, when I went to israel for the frst time I visited the military cemetery. Therein lay a tombstone of a 17 year old paratrooper.

I thought of my brother, a Sailor in the US Navy. My cousin, a military policeman in the army, of my friends back where I am training to be a merchant marine officer, some of whom are going through ROTC to become officers in the Navy or Marine Corps... I am 19. that stone could have belonged to any of them, or even myself. and it gave me such feels I had to sit down and think. Pro military or not, we all need to thank the men and women who sacrifice their lives for our freedoms, wherever we live.

I agree. In honesty, I don't feel bad for soldiers who willingly go into the war, whether to "protect" (As I feel WE'RE the ones attacking countries for no justifiable reason) or for the thrill of "killing" people, as I don't condone or respect killing for any reason. therefore I was just going to skip this content. But since you put it that way, it's easier to see why this is a "feels" type of post and should be viewed as devastating.

I don't agree with the wars of my country at all. But I don't blame the soldiers who are following orders. I blame the government. And I certainly don't blame the family members of the fallen soldiers. Someone can easily say that the soldiers willingly joined the military in a time of war and they did. But I know my husband never considered the military until after struggling to find good jobs and got stuck with nothing but minimum wage. If he didn't join, then I wouldn't be able to afford to go to school, we would be working minimum wage jobs, and probably on Welfare. And I know a lot of people who joined the military for the same reasons. Not because they want to protect, be patriotic, or for the thrill of things, but because our government jacked this economy up so bad, they don't have many other options. He's deployed to a "safe", war-less area right now, so I hope he never has to be in a situation where it's his life or another because I do feel for people on both sides of the war.

But back to the picture. I don't look at it as a fallen soldier. I look at it as somebody saying "see you later" and not knowing it was really a final goodbye. It happens in so many different situations besides soldiers. It's sad.

Interesting. I'm glad you posted that insight as I never viewed it that way. I knew there were financial benefits to the military but I never saw someone going into the military solely for that reason. My Dad was also in the war, I have no feelings for it, but I though I'd mention it in case anybody said "You don't know how it is to have someone in the military." I agree on the gov't thing as well, the money they put towards uneeded weapons is ludicrous. They want to "Help the economy" and find the best way to budget, yet they're to idiotic and greedy to cut spending on weapons for no reason. It's always amazed me how long we're in wars. We've been in this whole Iraq war for years, yet we have the BEST weapons one could ever fathom. Seems a little fishy. Seems as though we WANT to be in war, not that we NEED to be, that's why I can't respect the gov't. So I mostly agree with what you said, if a soldier goes into the military as a "last option" type of deal, then yes that's more understandable, also the same would be for a soldier who was drafted. But for a soldier who wants to be "Patriotic" which doesn't even seem like a real idea/concept in today's world, at least in the gov't, or soldiers who want to feel the "thrill" and excitement of killing, I feel no pity or sadness for them

I mostly agree with you. I really do not mind a 'feel' post every once in a while because it's nice to know that people are still doing good things out there, or that people's lives can be shittier than mine (not that mine's all that terrible,) but if I hit 3 or 4 in a row, it just loses all impact and serves only to annoy me. The number has to go down drastically, though I don't think 'feel' posts should completely disappear.

The only reason I'm mad at this is because 1) Its not funny at all, and 2) its one of the many feel posts on frontpage today.
I dont mind feels from time to time, but when they take over frontpage thats too much for me.

This doesn't help, anything that isn't funny should get a walloping, unless it's extremely interesting of has a lot of feels. This doesn't give me feels as I've seen it so many times.

That first sentence is the EXACT reason why I never feel bad for soldiers. Some want to kill, some want to "protect", yet they still need to kill to do so, yet never feeling bad for the OTHER side.
