Climb out on the wing, it's probably not burnable and you got a favorable wind.

it would have been easier to just walk into the fire, open the hatch and climb down

What retards. It's called run through the fire fast enough to get to the hatch.

"Hmm. I wonder if i can get past the flames to open up the metal hatch in the metal case with those metal rungs to climb down safely enough to survive?"
...Cause everybody knows that metal is a piss poor heating conductor.

I can't even imagine that. You just stand there, waiting for your life to end. Your everyday routine, your experiences, everything comes to an unexpected stop. Your unfinished work, your unaccomplished goals, the big ones as much as the little ones. Your family you were about to visit, your friends you were about to go to have a drink with, that show you were watching and got near the end of a season...
Everything just stops. If I have to die unnaturally, I hope it's quick and unexpected so I don't have the time to think about this.

They weren't hugging, they were struggling to try and get the other one to fall under them to break their fall

I might sound like a dumb ass here, but wouldn't it be an idea to take a parachute up there with you? just in case of such an emergency, or if you were about to fall... I know these things aren't high enough, but a chute would break the fall a bit atleast... i think..... ?

I still don't understand why high-altitude workers don't use parachutes. So many lives could have been saved, including these two.
