The Pokemon game of MY childhood was SIlver (I didn't have a Gameboy when Red/Blue came out). I got it at a garage sale when I was in fourth grade and I would play that almost every second of every day. I was lucky enough to have a friend who had Gold and we battled and traded almost every day. It was glorious.
I played through it three times. Once with Totodile and twice with Cyndaquil. Whenever I started over, my friend would too and we would continue to do everything together, like we would battle after every gym, and some days, every five minutes whenever one of us yelled "YOU HAVE BEEN SPOTTED BY A POKEMON TRAINER! YOU MUST FIGHT!"
Then, one day I brought my Gameboy and my Silver to my friend's house. When it was time for me to bike home, I put my Silver in my pocket and went home. When I got there, i noticed my game must have fallen out of my pocket somewhere along the way. Needless to say, I went back along the same path and searched for it for hours without finding it. In fact, my mom had to call the cops to find me because she thought someone had kidnapped me on my way home.
I never saw my Silver again, and I don't think I could ever love another game as much as that one. Now that I have FireRed, I have nobody to play with since nobody else has a Gameboy, a link cable (Or that wireless thing that came with FireRed. I lost mine.), or any Pokemon game.

I think I'll do this with my Pokemon Ruby copy, since I grew up on Gen III.
Although probably not, since when the GBA cartridge's battery runs out, it doesn't die, clock-based events just stop. Unless I'm wrong, then somebody correct me.

My story with my Ruby cartridge is funny. In grade 6 I lent it to some kid I hate, I don't know what I was thinking. He's basically that annoying childhood friend meme, only real. I guess I was just like "Heh, I'm 12 now, I'm too cool for pokemon, sure you can borrow the essence of my childhood". About 3 years ago, when I was going into grade 9, and I was becoming a nostalgiafag, and regaining my love for pokemon, and so I called the kid, and asked to hang out. We chilled at his house, and then someone knocked at the door, and he went to get it, and I stayed in his room. I ramsacked the room looking for it, and then I saw it. I grabbed it, pocketed it, and walked out of his room as he was walking back in, and I was just like "Peace" as I walked past him and out the door.

I remember playing my original yellow, red, and blue games for so long. Yellow was my first game but i played each one through to the end. I even had one of those little link cable thingies to battle and trade with people. I had brought my blue one and my gameboy case (in which i carried by link cable and a few games) to my mom's doctors office. When she went in I waited in the waiting room while playing pokemon blue. There was another little kid, probably a year or two older, doing the same next to me. We thought it'd be fun to trade our starters so we each had it in our pokedex and then trade it back. In the middle of the trade he had to leave and he ripped out the cable. After I re-opened the game my party was the same but i was missing my blastoise.

I will never forget that moment for as long as I live. I remember crying for hours because it was my favorite pokemon.

I had a case of a bunch of Pokemon games: Silver, Yellow, Red, Emerald, Sapphire (Mom made me give Ruby away, to someone I didn't even know; mfw), FireRed, LeafGreen... and it was lost when I moved.
